I went and looked at some old rods out in the barn after posting. I think, as an update, you have some high grade cast iron alloy rods. They are not something to run on steel. The alloy is nickel. But again, you never know 'till you burn one.

Texas members, how many of you who drive 5 tons have CDL's.? I'm still thinking about an M816 as a 'Machinery" truck or somthing to haul stuff.

From the picture I see, don't use 1/4 inch plate, use 1/2 inch plate. Why mickey mouse it.

The plow itself is worth some bucks. Surface rust removal is half a weekend with a little grinding/wire wheel. Just check out the cost of some plows on Ritchie Brothers some time.

Anybody ever figured out a way to pull one of these 5 ton trailers with a 12 volt hookup, sans transformers? The site is full of threads on pulling a 12 volt trailer with a 24volt Deuce or other mil vehicle, but when I (hopefully) pickup my trailer at Hooks, I want to energize the brakes off...

I mix in TCW-3 2 stroke oil from Wal Mart. Costs about $9.00 and some change per gallon at Wal Mart. I use at least 1 gallon of 2 stroke per half a tank. I also add Marvel Mystery Oil--about 1 quart per half tank of fuel.
