I can't tell from the pictures for sure, but it looks like the tank and reel hose that was in the back of my M37. It was a brush truck from a rural fire dept painted white. I would expect red paint on it but who knows.
I love to see more, I like finds like this.
I will admit up front I don't know what I'm talking about, but since the starter mounts on one side on the 5 tons and the other on the deuces it would seem to me you could rig up two starters. I don't know if the flywheels are different diameters, but I bet a bellhousing could be modded to work...
I actually got TM 9-2320-211-34P before I got my first MV. I knew I wanted a 5 ton but wasn't sure which one I would find first. It turned out I got the M51a2. Then the M54a2 a couple years later. Now I have the 10, 20, and 34P and I frequently use at least two at a time. It's good for me...
For what it's worth I find with my older cars trucks and tractors the unleaded gas is't the problem as much the alcohol that's been added. The alcohol messes with the needle valve in the carburator. See if there is a fuel dealer near you that sells gas without alcohol, more expensive but will...
I've heard the pucker guage is calibrated by how small the lockwashers you could cut off of it. I think I would buy a tilt meter before testing it out. I've tried tipping a few vehicles, including my backhoe, and I don't like it.
I would be leary of connecting electricity to your truck, if the bad guy meets with a good ground he might cook in his own juices. No sympathy but it would be premedatated for you. I had a friend back in the 70s hooked a high voltage power supply from a TV to the chasis of his Camaro that they...
It is now possible to repair a ruptured eardrum. I had one from when I was a kid and in my late 30s it started to drain and get infected. The ear doctor took a piece of muscle facia from behind my ear and repaired the ear drum. I can now pass a normal hearing test. Amazing what they come up...
The thing you need to remember with lead-acid batteries is that they give off hydrogen gas as they cycle. EXTREMELY explosive hydrogen. This is why even if you hook up a battery correctly it can explode if you make the last connection at the battery, arc ignites the gas=explosion.:shock...
I think belt tension has a lot to do with belt life in addition to belt quality. I think if you've never used a belt tensioner you tend to over tighten v-belts. I think that may be the biggest advantage of serpentine belts the auto matic belt tension. Just my 2cents
I don't mean to be a wet blanket, but you should check local laws concerning remotely operated cutouts. I know here in MO they're illegal if they can be operated from the drivers seat. Ask me how I know, I had a set on my '68 Camaro between the headers and exhaust system.
As I understand it the detergents are supposed to hold particles in suspension so they will drain out with oil changes and not settle in the engine or crankase. Seems to me a mechanical filter would catch them, but then I ain't no rocket scientist. What do I know?
I believe it's a paint called Glyptal. You will also see it on electric motors and generators to help insulate and protect the windings.
We used to have it around to seal leaks on high vacuum systems, paint it with a brush where you hear the whistle of a leak. Dries fast and hard.
