OK, for some reason when you type the number 8 with a parentheses mark right behind it, you get the goofy emoticon shown. Gave it a shot once or twice, but couldn't figure out how to undo that. Oh, well. :shrugs:

I went ahead and ordered tube of the stuff, (like $18) based on your alls comments here and figuring it'll last me my remaining lifetime (THAT'S a sobering comment). Do you need to lay it on "thick", or is it more a wipe-on kind of thin film that's all that is needed/recommended?

There is nothing in this world worse than a slotted-screw. I have no idea why anybody even manufactures them any more. I was wondering about your grinder. I can't figure out the make (that shape and branding color is unfamiliar to me). Do you know what make of grinder you have?

That looks like good product. I usually just use something like a silicon di-electric grease on terminals. Where do you buy THIS stuff?

She's no wall flower to tackle this undertaking, and clearly she is also a tough cookie. Walking in country like that is NOT a "walk in the park". But, that country is so beautiful; I know it makes it all worthwhile to her. I've done my share of wilderness backpacking, and loved every minute...

i'm hoping you consider starting a travelogue thread for your daughter and her "rolling home" so we can all send our good wishes and support. This has been a great thread, and an interesting enterprise.

I like how you're not hesitant to tackle the rough spots, jpg; more power to you. I wish I had some wisdom to lend, but I'm no expert (other than recognizing the old bromide that "rust never rests", and "ain't" that a drag). You go, though, Brother! [thumbzup]

Absolutely, a system al all-similar metals (if you are willing to tackle it) IS the ideal solution.

It "ain't" pretty. But sometimes it'll work... (You know I'm just kidding  ).

You're likely right, and I'm likely wrong; it was a long time ago (and I don't brag about my memory). I was in uniform so long ago that the training was in "ABC" warfare, before the whole change to "NBC" rolled around. ABC was an acronym for Atomic/ Biological/ Chemical. Printing it out...

A good Marine supply store (like www.westmarine.com) often has some similar hardware that might serve you there.

Don't know the best way to clean up the discoloration, but isolating the dissimilar metals with neoprene or nylon washers will prevent any galvanic action (you don't want the dissimilar metals making any contact with one another). Painting the sides of the drilled hole in the aluminum (hobby...

I'm thinking "Nuclear/ Bacteriological/ Chemical" when you say NBC (just old school acronyms from back in the day). But that's not what you're meaning here, is it?

When I was a younger buck, i walked with my buddies on more than a few wilderness trips that ran 2-3 weeks: - Unquestionably one of the biggest pleasures of those trips was the chance to clean-up and bathe (but Oh, Lordy that mountain water was SOOOO cold)!

I have that exact same portable toilet, and use it for my canoe camping. It's the most stable model on the market (and that's one reason I bought it; the modified 5-gallon bucket concept "just ain't cutting it"). There is also a hand-washing adaptor you can get for the water cooler (holds the...

System seems like a no-brainer: - But is there a trade-off in having it? Other than its cost of course; risk of damage to power train or anything?
