I certainly do know Dave Dunn. We chat regularly on Skype, I am slightly envious of his ex Canadian DART Supacat (Canadian Defense bought 10 of these machines). It is the latest Mk2A and very little different to the Mk3 - 1.9 turbo diesel and 4 speed box, plus a heavier duty chain drive.
Dave...
Hi Guys,
Having taken my Supacat out on some local trails, I am now heading out cross country. This is where everything starts to get interesting because if I get stuck then I am going to have a real big problem, on my hands, to extract. There is nothing around here on wheels which will get to...
Hi NB,
My trailer was part of a system that was being trialled in a contract competition for the UK Ministry of Defence. It was built in 2003 by the MESA Corporation of Switzerland to a very high specification, after failure to win the contract quite a number of these trailers and similar types...
Mike,
Thanks for the reminder! That if you use an acronym it should be explained in full at the first opportunity or explained in the glossary of terms), forgetting or omitting this is a major journalistic error even if it is frequently seen. Anyway you will see that I have now corrected the...
At last have the DRASH (Deployable Rapid Assemby SHelter) trailer to run level behind Mog. Had to cut the pintle off and turn it over on the drawbar, but it is looking sweet now. Just the ABS connection to the trailer brakes and electrics to the lights, plus a pair of aluminum ramps and I am...
Thought some of you guys would like to see how my Mog is looking freshout of the paintshop with super hi-top roof, compare pic 0001.5 with white standard single cab flat top parked behind to see what difference this makes. Extra height is 380mm more than flat top and 225mm higher than ordinary...
Here, in the UK, Unimogs are extensively used as agricultural contractors machines and fulfill mostall of the roles of a tractor. With regard your question about rear implement view, very simple to fit a rear view camera with monitor on the dash. I have 2 cameras on my Mog and also have a camera...
Good grief Bill that tree must surely go more than 5 tons and it sure is a neat trick to get it to stand up like that in the back of the truck. Congrats to you!
Yeah I know guys - I lost the plot. Actually the first Supacat was a great buy and so I could not resist the urge to buy a second one along with a bunch of spares. The 2nd one is a bit different as it has a front mounted winch with a rag top over the bed. I will need to close in the back of the...
Crane looks much the same as it remains unmodified since I bought it. It was repainted and is pretty much greased up in all the right places, fires up on the button even after long time standing.
Hi Guys,
I expect this will ride will catch a few eyes.
Built for the British military it is a '63 Smiths of Rodley all terrain crane with lift capacity of 10 tons static lifting direct off the rubber or 8 tons with travel. Power for everything is from a Rolls Royce straight 8 diesel of 995...
Hi Bruce,
Plans for Mog are that it is currently fitted with air coinditioning etc for hot climates and is currently being fitted out for winterisation for cold extremes. There is a camper box under construction which is telescopic upwards with hydraulic rams. Current plans are for a north...
Hi Guys
Further to questions about the Supacat I have managed to cull a full and comprehensive spec on the current Supascat. This has been added to my original posting and is downloadable.
Hi there Armada,
Thanks for the welcome!
When I have had some experience driving the new ride I will let you know definitively about handling etc both on and off road. I can tell you that from hear say they are mild mannered on the road due to the fact that they have Ackerman steering, I hope...
Hi Rich
Yes they are amphibious but are a bit short of free board. There is a special buoyancy pack available from the manufacturer which gives greater stability and load carrying.
Chris,
Thanks for the fixed link. The Mog Mog is currently undergoing further work, ultimately to include a camper box at which point I will be completely autonomous for travel, work and home.
Road legal in Europe but the are also in the USA and Canada so probably there too. They are currently in service with UK elite special forces (SAS Special air Service and SBS Special Boat Service) and I believe also with our Royal Marines. They have mostly been used for transporting men and...
