Everything else works properly (including marker lights when set). No bulbs are burnt out. But left and right turn signals, hazard lights, and brake lights do not function.
I've tested the turn signals and brake lights in literally every configuration possible on the 3-lever switch.
Anyway I...
Awesome, thanks Cranetruck...
You know I think when I finally get this thing solved I'm gonna write an article bringing together all the great info I've gotten on this problem. A front-to-back diagnosis and repair guide for this situation.
Ok, here's the situation. I have no turn signals or brake lights. It's not an uncommon problem I know, so I've read all the threads I can find here (and have started a couple of my own).
Up to this point I have:
A) Checked the ground and the wires at the flasher module, including re-mounting...
Checked the turn switch and everything LOOKS ok, but will probably pull it and take it back home with me this weekend - left the contact cleaner back home.
I really need to get myself and my deuce in the same location (even same STATE would be handy! lol). Though if I can get the brake and turn...
Ok, posted about this a while back and thought it might be the multiswitch. Took that apart, cleaned it and reassembled. Just got it back in the deuce aaaaannnndd.....
Still no turn signals or stop lights. aua
Any further suggestions?
All other lights seem to be working fine.
Would a busted...
Well bad news is in, it seems to be seized up pretty good. I know it worked once upon a time, but the truck has sat for looooong periods.
In this case it seems that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Lube your wiper moters periodically!!
That being said I would still try this on...
Time to play a little "Good news/bad news"
Good news is most of the wiper motor is very easy to dissasemble. Just pull out whatever screws are standing in your way. Just as easy to put back together.
Bad news is the area where the problem lies (for me at least) doesn't come apart at all - it's...
I've got the same issue. Was planning on trying to repair mine. In fact I will give it a shot this weekend. Want me to let you know how it goes before you buy anything? Will probably do it saturday sometime.
Man, definitely gotta save this thread!
I think my dad had State Farm as well when he had it. ~$300/year range IIRC.
I checked into a few places but I ran into a lot of:
A) Must be stored indoors (it is right now but won't always be)
B) It's too large
C) Only insure drivers over 25
So for now...
RE: Mine
Hmmm... it may be worth it, though. Being in the military I move a lot. I also get paid by weight to move my own stuff. A deuce can haul a lot of stuff. ;) Shoot even with my little Ford Escape and a smallish trailer, I made over $1500 just going from Grand Rapids to Dayton. And that...
Yeah we never get hassled just driving ours, but now that its mine rather than my dad's, I'm planning on actually using it to move stuff from time to time. My brother did that once and got pulled over. The cop let him off but made it clear just how much he could get fined if he did it again...
Any of you have regular plates on your deuce (not antique?) If so how much do they cost? I have antique plates on mine right now but was considering getting rid of them to ease on the use restrictions. Mine's titled as a stake truck, if that makes any difference...
Phew, dodged a bullet, then! I was talking to him about this trailer, he said you were coming to look at it so I said cool, you've got first dibs.
It's fine since I've got some leads on an M105, which I would rather have anyway.
David,
Excellent post! Your reasoning is very solid. It also illustrates the diversity of a "restoration" - i.e. factory, field, etc.
I caught some grief a while back when I said I was going to brush-paint my deuce for a more original look. The argument was deuce's didn't leave the factory...
