That's a good question: Why do you care what the neighbors think? Luckily we're out of the city so we don't even necessarily see our neighbors very often, but still, we certainly didn't ask when we brought Frankendeuce home!
No worries. I actually found out from someone else in a completely unrelated discussion that there ARE differences in the M38 and CJ5 frame. I'm not sure that they would effect body mounting, but they aren't identical as I had suspected.
Was listening to Bob and Tom once, they had a semi driver who called in and had somehow rigged up a train horn on his rig... DANG was that thing loud! They asked him, "is that even legal?" The reply? "Uhhh..... we're checkin on that...." (Aka NO). :D
Nah, it's got the 4-cyl. For now... who knows, by the time I'm finished with the rebuild/restoration I might have swapped up to the Dauntless! :) The F-134 is a good engine in its own right, though. There's some simple performance mods you can do that are supposed to make them quite capable...
Ok, thanks Stefos!
Thinking about it more I think I'll just keep it straight-CJ5. It's cool enough as it is, I don't need to pretend it's something it's not.
Thanks all.
M38A1. I should have been more specific. Anywho, I think so, too. The gauge setup is very different, but other than that they appear very similar. The real kicker will be if the body mounts are in the right spots.
I think I'm gonna track down some tub shops and see what they say. It'll be a...
Hey all,
I see this folder isn't too active, so I hope someone sees this. I'm in the process of purchasing a 1967 CJ5 for a restoration project. It's in good running order with a good frame, and I'm getting it for a pretty good price, but the body is pretty well shot. Some parts are salvagable...
I'm gonna second LH here, someone wanna explain this "double clutch" mumbo jumbo? My first two cars were both sticks, but I'm not familiar with this term!
Heheheh. I don't know, do they? If they do, I just need 10 of ya to loan me $2500 of yours, because it looks like I lost mine!
LTRN,
I this sentance in the markings manual I've posted elsewhere:
All single vehicles with a gross weight of over 3 tons, and all trailers with a rated payload exceeding 11/2 tons, are classified for the purpose of bridge crossing, per FM 5-36.
I haven't seen the manual myself yet, but if I...
DM,
If you can't find paint locally, one idea is to get a piece that is the right color and get it color matched. I've heard of some people taking this route with good results.
DR:
Just to let you know, I cracked open the box with the bridgeplate this past weekend. Didn't get a chance to take any pics, but I'm a happy camper! They need a coat of paint obviously, but I was planning on doing that, anyway. so thanks muchly! :)
Bolted on that new intake today... OH BABY!!! For $25 worth of parts and a couple hours in the shop, this was one big payoff! Feels (and sounds) like a whole new beast...
Someday, DR, someday....
LTRN: My dad had an econoline E150 for a work truck, he put over 300k on it, sold it and last we heard it had over 400 and was still going. Can't argue with numbers like that!
DS,
Someday I'd like to get a short bus and convert it to a camper. My big project, though, is going to be attaching a gas grill to the wheelchair lift. I get to camp, park, press a button and viola! It's BBQ time! :)
