I love it! The kettle calling the pot black.... or the coffee pot calling the teapot wet.
The LVAD cab is a purpose designed cab, not a cut up version of a standard cab. The cab weighs 200 lbs more than the std cab. It has an exact order in which the back and sides are folded up and the...
That truck is pretty much all me and my interpretation of of all the photos and info I was able to find at the time of a War Pig. The sleeve of the intake was only a tube, and a no biggie to cut.
I used to tell people when I was building the truck, that the truck 'told' me what was wrong with...
In a few years when people break their windshields, they'll wish for a LVAD. All the glass is flat.
I've had my M-1094 since mid 2012. and they are the rarest of all the LVADs. A member here that was at Ft Bragg estimated less than 174 made. A manager at BAE thinks 125 would be high.
Thinking...
The pin through the nut is an indicator. On the other side is a similar pin that when the latch wraps around the strike, the pin blocks the latch from rotating. In simple terms, like a door latch on a modern car.
Other things to check. Remove the hydraulic line and pump fluid into a pail, in...
I rarely pump the cab all the way down. Once it's over center, I just let gravity bring it all the way down. It should self latch
I can say for a fact the cab will pivot forward if you slam on the brakes while moving.
When you go to raise the cab, the initial pressure unlatches the safety and then the pressure raises the cab. When the cab comes down, the lack of pressure allows the safety latch out to catch the hook.
More than likely, the piston has frozen from water and and crap in the cylinder. Remove the...
I don't know what you mean by that...? With the FMTVs, that usually means they don't understand it... which is most of the truck, and which automatically makes it a bad design.
Some of the problems are caused by people that think they're smarter than the engineers, and change things...
I don't think you're working out a problem, but creating one.
Though I don't know if Steyr had a hand in the MTV ( but the suspension suggest it), Pinzgauers have had the same rear suspension on the 6x6's throughout their entire existent.
It is design to transfer load to both axles, and...
Well. my bushings did come from BAE before they closed. The quote basically says the rest. I did get a 2nd set of uppers at the time, that if needed, I could cut them down to make the lower bushings.
IIRC, I had the remains of the lowers and matched as best I could at a HD truck parts house...
To lower the truck, the combination of opening the kneeling valves on the front tires, compressing the front axle and lowering the cab will reduce the overall height from 112" to 105 1/2".
Be sure to lock the cab down. I've been goosed a few times by the cab raising unexpectedly.
To...
What year is your M1078A1?
FMTVs had Cat 3116 originally, then Cat came out with the 3126 in 1997( the first electronically controlled version).
The C7 was not introduced by Caterpillar until 2003ish ( I don't know when they were installed in the FMTVs, but definitely later)
This article...
You only need ask the DMV for the one trip permits, and the quantity wanted. You then fill the permit with the required info when you use it. They were S18 each, then when to S19 last year, haven't needed any lately. I usually bought 6 or more at a time, just to avoid a bunch of trips to the...
The latch had frozen and the strike had been removed from the cab by some one before I bought the truck. It has been years now, but iirc, I had removed the latch assembly and removed the end cap (there is a return spring in there, again iirc), soaked the piston until it could be pulled from the...
Not true. I rebuilt mine years ago. Just a matter of getting them off ,remove the end cap, clean them up and replace seals. I don't remember the size o ring, just grabbed what I had in my collection of o rings. ;)
Most of my interest goes with Euro vehicles and the methods used to accomplish an end. ( more than 1 way to skin a cat ;) ).
Before buying the FDT, I had looked into several Euro 4x4 trucks ( had a Unimog 1300), the Man FAE 8.136, Steyr 12M18, and others. All these trucks bring top $ in...
Most everything that dealt with the exterior of the cab was Steyr (or built in the US under license). An engineer with BAE that I had contact during the last year of the Sealy plant had a previous assignment of eliminating as many Steyr parts as possible from the FMTV, and at the end, there were...
A little late in posting, but a year has come and gone since I entered my Pinzgauer in the Queen's English British car meet last year. This year's visit was with a far better reception, as I went from the back of the meet last year (sort of from the back of the bus) to the front, next to the...
Well. With my receipt of the Pinzgauer, it has gotten most all my attention the past year, and the FDT has gone neglected..
Though a bit tardy in posting, I had the FDT in a local 4th of July parade and received back some pics of it ( and me... a rarity :-D)
I love the feeling of an open...
