Starting new thread for same old problem.....

Yes I know. And I am embarrassed for not checking that one part. Should have known to. But as for checking the flow, other than an eye test, I have no meters or gauges to do any of that. Other than a multi meter. I suppose a guy like me should not have something like this unless I have the...

Starting new thread for same old problem.....

Well I really appreciate all the help that was offered. And I thought I had checked out the ENTIRE fuel system, and in fact I did replace the entire system, EXCEPT that elbow valve at the top pf the tank. I am looking for a screen filter or some brass , copper or stainless steel screen to make...

Starting new thread for same old problem.....

Well friends thanks for all the suggestions and advice. I think I have fixed the truck. Last night after several test runs, we changed the fuel pump, and we installed a new coil. Seemed to run better or farther, but in the end it was really no change. In utter disgust and frustration I took...

Starting new thread for same old problem.....

My manual is TM9-8024, I will look for that. When I took the carb apart I used air to blow thru some of the holes / jets. Two press fit brass things, jets? came out. In looking over a TM I think they are called "MAIN WELL TUBES"? Hard to tell? They looked identical but could have been...

Starting new thread for same old problem.....

I just noticed something that may or may not matter? The fuel pump on this truck originally had two wires going to it. So did the after market pump that had been on it for many years and it ran fine. So I installed the new ones using those same wires. BUT, as I was looking at the wiring...

Thanks for the suggestion, already tried that, twice?

Starting new thread for same old problem.....

Spent the afternoon trying different things, still no change. Truck will fire right up and idles great. Reev the engine, sounds great. Drive 2 or 300 yardsm starts cutting out and sometimes stalls. Let it set a couple minutes, can usually get it back home about the same. Today we checked out...

Starting new thread for same old problem.....

are you meaning the actual resisitor or the condenser at the points?

Starting new thread for same old problem.....

Going to have to try that. Do you mean just gravity flow from a can? Another matter may be wrong. The wire from the Primary Circuit Resistor seems mighty lose where it attaches to the resistor. Would that effect the way this is running? If I remember from years ago, that resistor reduces the...

Starting new thread for same old problem.....

My concern is that we started down this road because it was not running well, was stalling, etc. So far nothing we have done has made any noticable change. Perhaps my old pump was not bad. The truck did have 1/4" rubber lines for 20+years, and ran well. The fittings on the pump I had were...

Starting new thread for same old problem.....

Might have made some progress today. First thing, we tried the truck with the gas cap OFF. No difference. Then we took the all new fuel line apart at the filter, put the end back in the tank and started the truck until we ran the carb out of gas. Biggest thing was that the NEW pump must be...

Starting new thread for same old problem.....

Thanks for all the input. In my limited expierience, I just don't see it being the coil, but my Son ordered a new one and we'll try that. As for the size of the fuel lines, the pump has 5/16 fittings, the carb has 5/15 fittings. When the guy at NAPA told me that 1/4" was for lawn mowers, it...

Starting new thread for same old problem.....

I am pretty sure the fuel lines are open from the tank to carb. All new lines, new elec fuel pump, new in line filter. Even tried it without a filter. The rubber lines had been 1/4" for 20 years, even upsized to 5/16 when replacing. The tank looks clean as a whistle inside. We had it cleaned...

Starting new thread for same old problem.....

It looks to me that I sort of do have a dedicated thread for this truck, up to 4 pages now. This truck was a dream of my Fathers. He had two of these and this was the best one of the two. After he used them for some hobby logging work after he had retired, he offered them to the local...

Starting new thread for same old problem.....

Thanks to all. Just waiting on that new coil before jumping in again. Where do you get that gauge and presure regulator?

Starting new thread for same old problem.....

Rusty, I am not very familiar with how carbs function. I actually did not "rebuild" the carb. I just took it partially apart looking for crud, or an obvious problem. I did not take the the governor apart at all. I am not capable of actually rebuilding that carb. Would you know of anyone...

Gonna do the fuel test as soon as I get someone here to help.

Starting new thread for same old problem.....

Someone has suggested it may be getting too much fuel? Asked about black smoke? I just took these photos. You can see the wet soot sticking to the exhaust stack. In the second photo the engine is running at idle. There is never any smoke visable when it is running, but there is this soot...

Starting new thread for same old problem.....

I just went out in the total dark and started the truck. Sprayed a mist of water all over the plug wires and dist cap. Saw no sparks at all. Same old thing, starts right up and idles fine. Try and go and within a couple hundred yards can't pull itself?
