That's a great idea. I do it on my boat trailer. I like the rocker panel idea too. Waiting to put in a/c after this crazy heat wave passes. Truck has been sitting idle for a little bit getting a little paint touch up. Love to put some correct markings on it with a little personal touch.
Hoping to use some old shorepower cords my old man has laying around and they may even be the 4 pin just like my 004a outlet plug. I did find some stuff on ebay though, thanks Ike. We' see what I scrounge up.
Just a heads up. I had a show recorded on the Military Channel called "Weaponology - Armored Personnel Carriers" and it had a breif segment about the 2.5-5 ton gun trucks used in Vietnam. Showed a few of them and talked to some guys about the trucks and weapons. It will probably replay so DVR...
Thanks for the replies guys. Looking at the gen being 15kw I might be able to use the cables mentioned in the previous post. The more I look into this it seems an interlock kit would be the best route since I want to energize my entire panel and if I want to do some sort of grid tie solar system...
I'm figuring the the wiring/conduit, the generator plug in box, and mounting the transfer switch and gathering up the materials to do most of the work besides the TS install. I'll have a elec friend do that.
I am having a hard time finding a replacement plug for the generator that attaches to...
Good points. I am currently at the beach here in NE fla and we have a serious salt air issue as well. I have been in coastal Fla most of my life so I guess I am just used to the extra washing and preventative stuff that goes along with it. I coat my boat trailers with used motor oil to protect...
I am pouring through the muni codes for Vero Beach and it says no parking of trucks over 5,000 lbs (my dodge ram weighs more than that...) then it also says no to industrial equipment..
My local codes state no vehicle over 20' to be within the setup from the street so I just keep mine along...
Thanks for the input. I'll have to check this more when I get back in town. I will be doing the TS soon as wel as the gen plug on the side. Need to swap out the plug on the genset to a newer type of plug.
Not sure yet what the thermal watt converter does but since mine is leaking out behind...
You're saying to check the voltage at the 4 lugs (L0-L3)?
Which guage did you suspect being off, the guage in the panel on the set or my voltmeter?
Thanks
Well I just bit the bullet and ordered a gear pump since I was only saving $50 by finding the right motor and then fitting the correct gear pump head to it..
I will use my chevy oil pump hooked up to my Mutt starter motor for a collection pump.
The gear pump/cetrifuge will now filter the...
Haha!!!!! That's funny man. Safety glasses and Cup in hand I guess? Yeah I'm kinda the same way I just lucky, sometimes...
Thanks for the pics! I see now how the tanks are so large from what you said earlier. They use a whole shed, very cool.
Speaking of wiring, I need a source for some...
Thanks man. It's been a little work but serious mech work. Mainly cleaning/painting. I had a few K5's before this so it's pretty easy.
Now to see how this guy runs on motor oil and diesel, maybe even some atf...
Ran for about 20min or so. Temp guage sits at the 2 in the 120 side of the guage when cold or running for only 5min. Before I shut it down after 20 min or so the needle was just at the 120 degree line so at least the guage works. I felt the hoses; upper and lower and radiator were all about the...
Thanks for all that.
I was reading the TM and I found that single phase loads can be run off sep legs. I'd like to see how much can be pulled from the 120 outlets (15amp total since the breaker is 15amp?) just for some prelim tests. Also do I need to change out my thermal watt converter before...
Thanks for spelling that out for me. I did a little monkeying around with the controls and was able to figure some of it. The frequency adjustment info is great, thank you!
Have another vid that won't load.
I ran it again and played with the throttle a bit. I got the frequency to hit 60hz using the throttle. The freq knob didnt seem to do anything, maybe I need to select different legs? Got the voltage up to about 240V. I will test the 120 recepticles with an ext...
I don't have a load bank so my plan is to get the gen running right then once I have my transfer switch in I will connect the gen to the house and run the A/C and some other large loads.
I cranked it up and ran it for a few minutes to take a vid of the guages, sorry for the camera angle. I...
Well I bought some big marine batts from O'reillys 3yr warr, changed all the filters, filled up the oil canister. I ran the fuel pump with the supply off the inj pump. Let some fuel pour into a can and seemed totally clean. Reconnected the house. Did another check then lit the fuse. Thing fired...
