My 70's Chevy's all go past full- but I still let them get down to 1/8th tank without sweating finding a gas station. If in doubt... fill a jerry can and when you run out mark the lens.
I had some trouble getting rubber line to go in without developing kinks when hot. I used https://www.amazon.com/Universal-Molded-Fuel-Line-Rubber/dp/B07C8YTNPF
I gives you 4 basic curves to work with. It may come in other diameters.
Second this. My audit trail here regarding my starter woes is long. I finally realized that all the starters I put in to fix the same problem had stamped into them NOT to SHIM. Then I read that rebuilders of these starters often mill the mating deck to freshen the rebuild. The starter may be ok...
I just had about the most harrowing event of my (surely shortened) life. I had the top of the IP off to adjust the Face cam. I got too comfortable reinstalling the top and I'm guessing I missed setting the lever n the right spot. As soon as I cranked it over all #311 broke loose. I knew what had...
I have not run a compression test. I'll have to look it up. I have a kit, not sure if it has the stuff for desels. I did find that the old #5 GP was pretty wet with fuel when pulled it... not sure what to do about it?
Actually I noticed a little loss of power in the hills for a few weeks before the top end dropped out. I was in the foothills and suddenly I felt the accelerator feeling as though its cable was slipping and not pulling the throttle anymore than half way down.
Otherwise the IP is about a year...
SO after charging both batteries overnight I loosened all the GPs and cranked until they ALL bled. Tightened them down and on the second crank they lit off. During the test drive it was slow to develop speed- the trans sounded like it was whining for a shift; second gear came late-sounding at...
UPDATE: I'm not closing out the thread yet, but I am making progress. I installed the 60G plugs- I have been running them since my first change from stock Wellman's. The GPs were purchased at a price more inline with MSRP- Bought from the ACDELCO seller (really ACDELCO?) on Amazon. They went...
Pink wire secure- CLICKs with juice applied.
Could all the GPs be bad? They are not old but I got them at far too great a discount on theBay- I worry that they might have been counterfeit 60G :cautious:.
The batteries are holding up- they crank well but all I get is a burning smell and a...
Chasing down my NO Power above 35mph, I installed fresh Fuel injectors. Went pretty well. The problem is it cranks, no start. The batteries are strong, and there is fuel getting to the injectors- I cracked the inlet connectors at each injector. The engine was running with immediate start up...
Looks like I'll drop my tank and see if the sending "sock" filter is to blame for my loss f power. As I was readin the forum on sending unit replacements I found https://www.steelsoldiers.com/attachments/img_3721-jpg.301195/
But I found the following in the 34P TM: 3PAOZZ 11862 [Part...
I have read several articles about transmissions that give out and render a maximum speed of 35MPH- to "Limp Home". The issue seems to be a shift solenoid.. Is this a thing with the 400?
I forgot to adjust the shift points via the VRV 🙄. So, I think I messed up something because I have rotated the VRV fully towards the rear of the vehicle and I cannot bring my 1st to 2nd gear to shift any sooner than 24MPH. 3rd never comes in until over 35mph. Not sure, but I feel like my...
Thanks for the visual, cucvrus. I'm sure you are right on this, but like everyone else, I wanted to follow the path of least resistance before dropping the tank. I filled it up the morning the Blazer presented with this problem. I'm about out of remedies to try so it looks like its time to drain...
This morning I checked the vacuum Pump- I got a median read of 20 Hg with the needle bouncing wildly between 16 and 22. The fuel pressure is pretty steady at 8Lbs. I removed the metering valve from the injector pump- more work than I needed to do in retrospect. It was a little funky- only a year...
Changed the Fuel filter, and checked all fuel lines for leaks or damage. Nothing changed. Starts at a crawl eventually gets to 35-40. How can I rule out the transmission?
Reinstalled the fuel pressure gauge after the filter- holds fairly steady at 8lbs.
