    LMTV Transmission Issues

Walt, Thanks for the reply! I wish there was as much info on this forum about trans fluid changes when we changed ours as there is now! We did an initial warm drain, got out about 4 gallons, then filled up to what we thought capacity should be (so we overfilled). Took it for a spin - much...

    LMTV Transmission Issues

Waltjg - I think something is wrong with the manual listing the fluid volume. I ask dumped way low on a change. I need to sort out why I expected around 11 gallons and only got like 3. We refilled all the way assuming the manual volume was correct - checked the dipstick and it was WAY high...

    Transmission Fluid Mysteries

Hi guys, Working on replacing fluids. Engine Oil, Differential Gear Lube, Hubs, etc. were easy, but Transmission fluid is throwing me for a loop! First off, the military puts engine oil in the transmission. My goal is to switch to Allison's recommended fluid, TES-295. The plan was simple...

How to turn on or diagnose Marker Lights on top of cab and on Van Box (M1079)

Thanks Paul! I forgot to circle back when we figured it out... it was just a circuit breaker mislignment. Half of the breakers were replaced with ones that only fit if you put align them just right with the connectors. I'll replace those soon. Now I can go pass the Safety Inspection :-) We...

How to turn on or diagnose Marker Lights on top of cab and on Van Box (M1079)

We're in the process of taking everything out. I won't be home in time to take any pics tonight. What do you want to know? In general, it's an open box with a few steel runners on the bottom and sides for bump protection when loading things. There's a circuit breaker like you'd see in a...

Awesome - thanks guys. I'll dig into that tonight or tomorrow. Are the breakers and relays readily available if I search the PN online? Any tricks to finding them to buy?

How to turn on or diagnose Marker Lights on top of cab and on Van Box (M1079)

Hi guys, I took the truck in to get Utah Safety and Emissions testing, and everything passed (!) with the exception of the Marker/Clearance Lights on the cab and box. The items circled in red on the picture linked below don't illuminate. http://i.imgur.com/VLmqdcT.png Can someone tell me...

Picking up LMTV Monday in Colorado

OK - haven't found time to write up much off a recap, but I'll give you the basic details in a stream-of-consciousness format :-) We arrived in Colorado the night before. Tim and I had all the tools we owned that we thought would be useful: wrenches, pliers, screwdrivers, prybar...

    LMTV Keyed Ignition

Hey guys, any update on this? Does anyone know what current runs through the Red momentary-switch to the starter relay? I haven't looked in the TM yet. Adding a $5 on/off keyed switch in series with the red switch might give security without much effort.

Picking up LMTV Monday in Colorado

NDT - that's great news that we can see the brake pads. That's one of our biggest concern (concerns at the level of "we could die"). We'll look at them for sure! The ad said it ran. It was from govplanet. Other trucks they've posted that needed a jump said so - hope this one is an honest listing!

Picking up LMTV Monday in Colorado

You guys are awesome! I'll be spending all day tomorrow with my counterpart digging up specifics related to the comments you guys have made! Warthog, I'm mechanically inclined with a good fundamental understanding of engines... Nothing specifically big truck related, but I'm at home working on...

Picking up LMTV Monday in Colorado

Thanks for sharing - That thread is a great read. We'll add checking fluid in the differentials! We have the operators manual and 7 files of technical manuals too. And we'll bring multiple types of fluids in case they're low.

Picking up LMTV Monday in Colorado

A friend and I bought an LMTV from Gov Planet and will be picking it up Monday in Colorado. We both live in Salt Lake City, so we have an 11 hour (minimum) drive home if we drive it back same-day. A couple questions for you guys: 1. What critical inspections would you do before trying to...
