Just ordered two new oil filters, cartridge type, from Saturn Surplus for $4.50 each today. Really hard to get the filter out because of all the stuff that is in the way. Love to have the spin on filter but my trailer had the old style and I guess I'll just have to live with it! I love how...
Mine is a firect drive also. You have a great idea though - I might loosten the belts next time I run the motor up because I really think it needs to run for a while after sitting for God knows how long. I also have to hook up an air line that someone disconnected which goes up by the motor...
Wonderful looking truck! I also have an M1008A1 and used some fiberglass troop seat material from a set of FMTV troop seats and they worked out great! If you add the cargo cover the troop seats will last forever!
Thanks Speddmon. I haven't even tried to remove the filter yet but will do so tomorrow - got rained out today. I think the unit I have uses a cartridge filter of some sort - looks similar to the filter housing on my MEP003a generator. Once I remove the thing I will know for sure. I should...
Finally got mine to run continuously by putting new plugs in and toying with the carburetor adjustments. I did a couple of short videos of the success but still need to obtain a replacement oil filter - probably available at NAPA hut need the part number for it. The oil that was in this thing...
Shark attack at Al's Air Force Base!!!! Not really, just a visit from Lavarok in his M1010 CUCV "Shark". Here's a short video of the action as he departs the driveway. Eventually I will have one of these too.
Air Filter Elements are available at Saturn Surplus for only $5.50 which is cheap compared to what I paid for the whole assembly on Ebay. Thanks for the lead about the alcohol injector by the way - I'll fill mine before I use it on my deuce. All the rain we have had here in Florida this month...
2Deuces wild, that is really a great modification for the trailer! I'll be contacting a guy named Matt for an extra M35 spare tire carrier shortly for my trailers. Eventually we may sell here in Florida and move to our property in McArthur CA and driving that distance requires additional spare...
Wreckerman, that's ingenius! You are right though - way too slow. The other way of doing it is like landing an F-4 which has been called "a controlled crash". My latching mechanism (dog leg) is questionable and releases for some reason - probably grease in the teeth. I already have one...
Thanks for the tips on locating the spark plugs and the fuel pump. I'll give them a shout today. Still need to get some way of removing the plugs right now. There must be a special socket for that purpose. I know there are plumber's sockets that have the reach so I am thinking about trying...
That's a nice trailer you have there! I can get mine to run but have to work more on the carburetor which I know is my main problem that causes hard starting and rough idle. I wanted to pull the plugs today but did not have the proper plug socket to work with the waterproof military spark...
Hey there dirtyfingernails, that's why I made this thing! I have actually seen injuries from doing this the wrong way dueing my 21 years of being a medic in the AF. The other member has a point and I'll bet that's the correct way to use the tire carrier.
That's a great idea for raising the tire but lowering is a different ball game I was thinking about being somewhere in the middle of nowhere and having to repair a flat. I also thought about going one step further and putting a disk brake on the spindle to get even better control of the tire...
Ever since I have owned my deuce I have been afraid to mess with my spare tire carrier. I have heard some safety concerns about improper lowering techniques and the possibility of serious injury of doing the job wrong. After considerable thought I decided to fabricate a crude tool that would...
Speddmon, glad to hear your unit fired up! I am still working on mine which is very stubborn - wants to start but only does so when I prime the carburetor through the air intake. I have been using ethanol free fuel for the motor which is available locally (at least for now). I did pull the...
Anybody know the size of the tires on this trailer which appears to have H1 rims on it? Are these smaller tires than you would find on a Humvee? The reason I am asking is the desire to take four of these, from trailers like this to place on my M1008 CUCV. If these are a smaller diameter tire...
I paid dearly for two pails of GAA grease from a guy named Bagwell ($55.00 a pail plus shipping) but decided it was worth the expense to keep the correct lubricant in my lube trailer for use on my M35A2C & M1008 CUCV. I need to get with Kenny to see about buying a bunch of pails of GAA from...
Almost drove off with a passenger that I never knew I had - basically a "stowaway". This one must have a hearing problem or else he is used to being around my vehicles and the sound of the running motor does not phase him at all. I am always aware that one or more of my cats might be under my...
