I've never tried this before but "therotically" it might work: Try boiling and/or baking?
First, does it sink in a bucket of water? if so, it is most likely saturated with water. If it floats, it is saturated with diesel or some oil.
Boiling (with a weight to hold it under...
Man, am I biting my toungue....
They are heaters for the intake air. Very similar, but different from the glow plugs in the heads.

There, I was nice (I hope)
Ok,
Did you read up on how to select a new timing button? The Rebuilt one will most likely not come with a button. (Or the button it comes with maybe wrong) And chances are your old one won't be correct.
It is really nice that working on these is so simple. Troubleshooting can be a bear...
Yea, I thought the same. 'til I done it.
No special tools were required. (Other than a torque wrench) Have a second person to help with the "Jesus Clip". Search the forum for "Jesus Clip". It is a little clip that holds the timing button in. (You could just order a spare when you order the...
Rather than buy a reman'd pump without a timing button and then searching for a correct button (which will be a bit expensive)
Just rebuild the pump yourself. I did it and it is pretty easy. Here is the link to the wiki info.

WOW, it really is trailer salad with these things.
Looks like, (to me)
A2 axles,
A2 Box
A2 springs
but the frame IS an A3.
So, how would you weight rate that one?????
Here is a drawing of an adaptor that meets my needs. A mechanic friend has a Snap-On Diesel Compression test set (MT3509). He has an extra fitting with the schrader valve and 1/8 pipe coupler. That is why I show 1/8" NPT on the one end. The "wrench Flats" are just so I can tighten things up and...
Should be able to do it on the engine. Don't know how good an idea that is. I am paranoid about getting dirt into the fuel system after the fuel filters. Tolerances are REALLY tight on fuel pumps. Maybe someone else will chime in.
I just know it is accessible while mounted.
Had a similiar situation. On top of the IP, there is a fitting that connects the IP to the Injector Return lines and the hose going to the tank. It is NOT an ordinary fitting. Inside is a very tiny hole between the IP and the other two connections. Mine was plugged. A 0.025 inch drill bit will...
Thanks Stan,
I will get a drawing with all the details made up. It might take a couple days for me too. This generator is a hobby endeavor (with long term benifits).

Ok, Where do I find an adapter to test compression on a MEP 002a or 003a??
The glow plug is threaded 7/16x20 (Champion #182 or CH-42)
ALL the "Normal" glow plugs are a metric thread.
Anyone make an adapter or test fitting? My first thought was to just get a 7/16x24 bolt machined to seal...
MEP 002 / 003 Compression test adapter
Jerry,
Any luck with the compression tester / adapter? I was working on my MEP002a over the weekend. Guy at the shop couldn't find an adapter to fit the glow plug. We measured the threads at 7/16"x24.
What have you found out?
I only need an adapter...
The Rebuild kit parts
So, Here is what you get in the KT85166:
Looking at the parts diagram: http://www.ambac.net/images/9540A.pdf
Looks like part numbers

(#19) GA 7615
(#15) GA 1085
If you notice, every part in the pdf linked has...
DUDE!!!!! your gonna melt the power cord on the heater!!!!!!!!!
AND for the love of Christ.......... Get a GREEN tarp.
I can't believe you haven't been banned from the site for a week with that blue one!!!!!!
:p:p:p:p:p
Will do. We had to cut the one from the pump to the TEE that connects the injector return lines. (-24P, Fig 40, #4) Replaced it with brake line & flare fittings. Haven't tightened it up yet. So I don't know if it will seal or not.
Have noticed the fitting on the IP for the return is not a...
