OK, I received in the recoil starter today!
Here it is. It does not include the mounting screws but it does have the all important
crank bolt. Steel wire. Rubber handle. Will try to see if I can get it mounted tonight.
ugh sorry to hear about the diesel knock...
but if you get it taken care of they are a great unit in my opinion.
They pull start very easy, seem to be very reliable and are very handy.
I had a flat on a skid steer tire the other day and I used my small diesel with a 1/2 inch impact
to zip the...
I wasn't sure HOW they were breaking the intakes, but I have seen a large number broken so I figured it must have been pretty common.
I have brought probably three to a friend who has welded them up, and then remachined so I could pop them back on. I have another few
that are broken. Probably...
Really appreciate all your input and knowledge!
I plan on taking side by side pics of the stock float with what I was told could be modified to work.
Plus I will take pics of the recoil starter. I think people will want to know about this stuff.
I mean....I can't be the only one into these...
Even though this is mostly the "generator" forum.....
:-P
I'd thought I'd ask members thoughts on the small military hand truck style
air compressors. Doesn't seem to be too much talk about them.
I kind of took a fancy to them and collected a few different types with the 1A08 engine,
a few...
Has anyone heard of a conversion kit to mount a recoil starter onto a military standard
1A08 and 2A016 engine?
I've seen one advertised, never heard of it and so ordered one to try. Figure what's the worst that could
happen.....if it works I'll mount it to one of my air compressors.
Didn't...
I heard this float could be modified to work in the 1A08 engine and some others.

I ordered one and its brass color, looks good and when I have an extra moment will see if it does
work or can easily be made...
The 4A032 ARE mean sounding engines.......! I love them. I have two powering air compressors and one on a gen set.
What wonderful lil beasts.........I've thought about doing the same thing.....I'd like to have a couple more to tinker with.
I really like those lil L40 Yanmar engines.
I have a few on small air compressors and they
are great. Very easy to pull start and the electric
start is a nice touch........
I need to add one of these gen sets to the pile......
Thank you for taking the time to share your knowledge. Greatly appreciated.
I have a couple 002As which could use a gauge and a 016D or two I might
be pulling apart to use the Yanmar powerpack on a different project.
Have a great weekend.
Great info, and that brings up a question.
The MEP-015a is rated by the military at 1,500 watts.......
but what is it actually capable of? 2,000 or maybe 2,200 watts?
I have a friend who used this model in the Army back in the 1980s and
he always takes about how they are barely capable of...
UPS just dropped off a NOS 1A08-4 engine. Looks brand new with all the tags and plugs still on it. Even has the original military
paperwork. I found it on craigslist out of state and the owner was nice enough to box it up and ship it to me.
It was built in Nov 1986 and has the electronic...
