Sorry I did not finish some thoughts. I started replying just before dinner and had to run.
If you have other questions about the gearing, send me a PM or reply here again.
On the rust. When I got my truck and drained the tranny oil the first time I was alarmed. Lots of metal. I pulled the...
It's definitely a non-overdrive transmission. Here's a pic of mine with OD (3053A):
If you look closely at your gearbox you can see the gears make steady stair steps with the smallest at the front.
If you look closely at my gear box there's an odd stair step with the 2nd one from the front...
<--- Enjoying parking in the driveway without any drips
I purchased an engine rear seal in the event I got the transmission out and found the rear seal was also leaking, yet decided it was not necessary. The leak I've been chasing is from the transmission pouring from the bearing retainer and...
My truck is desert tan with a vinyl top and I've been hoping to find an extra (damaged and unserviceable, yet can cut patches off of it). I've been told that you can use rubber cement and it works well. I have a couple small holes and thin spots where it has worn such as the reinforced strips...
The previous owner of my truck removed the windshield wipers. I did purchase new ones, yet never installed them. Instead I keep them well rain-X’ed and it works as well as wipers. And I live in the NW!
I do keep the wipers in the tool box just in case. They can be installed in 5 minutes.
I...
Sounds like a valve issue assuming it is hydraulic. I would start by draining and cleaning with particular attention to any valve or part that moves at the center (or straight forward travel) position.
Spicer 3052 3053 3053A Bearing Retainer Seal Considerations
To start with, I wasn’t planning to come out with this until the 1st of the year, so I’m not quite as prepared as I’d like. It is pushing me to delve into this about a month earlier than planned. There’s suddenly a bunch of interest...
I’ve worked out how to get a seal into the existing OEM part without needing to make one from scratch. It took me quite a bit of time to sort out, but eventually I did! I’m thinking of starting to sell them the 1st of next year. PM me if interested.
There's an open eBay auction with the R6602 engine. It's like they took the same or very similar block and re-spun it as a gasser with a single head, added distributor, etc. There's also some manuals for that engine on eBay. I could scan (to pdf) one for anyone that cannot.
I've never...
Yes or No for all of the below. Are Gimpy and Jeepsinker willing to be indemnified for emergency services for trucks that do not start below freezing? Or with an injector test you will then accept all costs involved? And are you advising people to soak air filters in flammable liquids and use...
I usually agree with Gimpy, but not on this one.
If you need the flame heater for a cold start and the lines are plugged, you have to remove them and hook everything back up.
Not the best situation.
My suggestion if you have a leak is fix it.
If you are worried about a leak in the future, put...
There's a thread here my WSUcougar (may be misspelled). It goes through it step by step. If you search for turbo rebuild you should find it.
I got a rebuild kit from a place (in mississippi or in that area?) 2-3 years ago. I forget the name but if you search on turbos, borg warner...
It sounds like it's just going to take you some time to clean the rust and crud out of the lines. You may want to bite the bullet and replace the lines. Good luck!
In addition to what jeepsinker said, check out JATonka's site. He has a good paper that explains it well. You should get a pyrometer and boost gage installed. If your budget is tight you can do a boost gage using a 0-15psi pressure gage, some tubing and and single brass fitting on the intake...
