yeah 140 for 931 and 152 for 923, but the frame is like 43" longer ( 307.5 M923 VS 264.5 M931 ) I would think nearly 4 ft extra would be enough frame and you could put the hitch where you need it and slide axles back.I understand using what you got though since you wouldnt have to buy another...
jdknech- have you thought of just using a m923 chassis as starting platform? would have about right length stock to do a crew cab tractor, or heck tractor with sleeper built on 923 chassis might work.
nice looking crew cab, has the right look to the cab. how hard was it to replace window? I just cracked my passenger side one other night, shutting door in cold temps I guess.
I have only seen one set myself in person and they were under a old military crane that was in a junkyard near me, tried to buy them but at time had no way of getting them out from under truck in middle of junkyard.
cerial let me know if you want to sell the 5.81's I'm not really sure I want...
You might want to get ahold of Adam from adams offroad, he runs the air locker axles in his mud bronco and has dealt with them for years.
http://adamsoffroadperformance.com/contact/ he might also be able to help you on parts and interchangability.
my suggestion would be save your air lockers...
The only problem with using the 931 is the extra short wheelbase from the front axle to the mid axle make it so most guys have to make a extended drive shaft/air lines and you also have to source a new bed, with my 923 I kept the mid axle in its stock place allowing for the stock driveshaft and...
man, glad to hear your ok after that glove incident. I had one question on this build and I'm sorry if you already covered it, how are you going to go about making it legal for weight ratings and such? will your state just go by what the drivetrain is rated to haul/tow (m916) or will you have to...
I have 16.00's but my truck is bobbed, they do rub when turning fully on fmtv rims unless you run a small spacer (I'm running the center cut out of another wheel as a spacer then using thimbles from rear for lugs.) If you are thinking about offroad performance also I would consider the FMTV 395...
I will have to get a pic of mine, I used the stock front shock mounts but cut the L part off them and turned them so bolt holes were @ 6 O'clock and 12 O'clock instead of 3 and 9. I then used 1" spacers behind the mounts and bolted them where the factory rear bumpstops were bolted (holes lined...
harley- I can take a few for you within day or two when i get back down to my parents house where truck is kept right now.I will tell you they are the part that stumped me and had me worried when I was first trying to get axle under truck but it turned out to be pretty easy to do after caging...
the ones I have are goodyear g286's I believe in 425/65/22.5 and they are almost exact match in height for the G177 11r20's ( I put pics earlier)
I did find the data for you from goodyears website. RPM for G286 425's is 470 and 11r20 G177's is 478, also worth noting though is my 425's have been...
I love this post.I laugh everytime someone asks me how hard it was to bob my 5 ton I tell them its hard to explain, its really simple process made really difficult by the size and weight of everything your working with.
In a low traction situation like mud it wouldnt be a big deal but as soon as one tire got grip it could turn into parts everywhere. The sheer weight and power of these trucks would make for an unforgiving setup if that happened as it would be a sudden shock load to axles,transfer...
Some of the larger weight distribution hitches actually have a good size drop to them and are rated high enough. I dont see a problem with the spacer approach but it might be better to just use the right size drop hitch as long as it also has the tow rating you need.
there are quite a few drop...
For me I stopped at station right outside of base and filled with diesel till it was just up into the basket by one line, set trip on gps and drove home stopping at station about 1 mile from my parents house and filled up to same mark in basket. I then just did miles covered and gallons used and...
when i bought my 923a0 truck I used gps to verify speed and MPG, ran about 50-55mph all the way home on pretty flat ground and got just a tick over 11mpg with the stock 11r20's.
