I also had a question. I just brought the truck home from the tire place, approx. 12 miles. Anytime I would go above 45mph the front end would start swaying and it'd get hard to steer. I'll look into tire pressures when I get home from work, what should they...
I'm not an engineer, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn last night...
I think the weakest link are the bolts. But the tensile strength of 3/4" grade 8 bolts are 50,000lbs each. If you figure in a safety factor of 8, you're looking at 12,500lbs with a decent margin of error.
No brakes on the trailer and braking wasn't a problem. The M1009 stops the boat suprisingly well. If I didn't feel that it was safe tow, I wouldn't do it.
IIRC, the 1008 is 5900lbs. I've pulled my boat weighing ~5500 behind my 1009. At above 65mph the temp light would start glowing and I'd slow down.
With the tall gearing on the 1009, IMHO it's more of a pain to tow at 45mph and much less lugging and easier at 55mph.
