What is original year model of your M925? I recall that the M-939 Series of trucks came out in '83-'84? I'd look at the motor vehicle laws for 5-ton civilian trucks of that era to see what the DOT requirements were regarding safety glass windshields, etc...
If I'm not mistaken, Charles Talbert at M-Series Rebuild has the capability of bringing the running boards 'back to life' - wouldn't hurt to contact him and ask. I recall him saying something in the past about resurrecting old running boards & coaxing them back to normal.

Congratulations! But be gentle with it, lest you find the next weak link in the 6.X chain... I vote that the head gaskets will go, or a molten piston will present itself due to increased EGT's.
You ARE monitoring EGT's, right?

The first two sentences don't make sense... 'top fuel engines turn approximately 540 revolutions from light to light'? and '...the engine must only survive 900 revolutions...'
WHAT?
What is this referring to?

Let him drive the M1009 - it's cheap & disposable compared to the others in your list.
For all: see if 'Replacement Value' or some similarly-worded insurance is available for your vehicle... may be called 'Agreed Value' insurance?
My perspective on this is that there is an agenda that is slowly infiltrating the goverment in each state in regards to Ex-MV civilian ownership. I don't think this is karma, happenstance, or sheer luck on the part of the states that have already tried to pass or have passed restrictive...
And you are assured that said items in question are the 'standard stuff'? Anecdotal evidence or hard facts?
...to your point about 'no one coming forward & saying that these are special cases' - the squeaky wheel gets the attention & grease in this case. I'd ask the whistle-blowers to prove...
...sigh.
I hear this frequently quoted about the high price the Government pays for toilet seats & hammers, BUT did someone take the time to see if it was a special design, limited-production volume $500 toilet seat for use on a B52 lav, or a special use $200.00 hammer for some peculiar...
If SS mods can post a big 'banner ad' on the website regarding the content of post comments, then it might be a good idea to post a rolling banner - AT TOP OF PAGE - in large font that states:
DON'T BUY A TRUCK WITHOUT A TITLE - WALK AWAY FROM THE SALE!!

Recognize as well that towed load ratings also presume that only thing in tow vehicle is a 150-200 lb driver, and no additional passengers or cargo. It's been this way for years...
And this is where most people make their mistake - they wonder why the truck transmission failed/overheated when...
Even if you find a bed a bit further away from you, there are folks here on SS that travel up/down the major highways & they could probably help transport a bed to your neck of the woods for a few bits of green paper with pictures of dead Presidents/famous historic people on them... :mrgreen...
Welcome to the Steel Soldiers site Matt! Congratulations on your M37 acquisition!
But it's not a Power Wagon; those were civilian trucks...
There are lots of good resources here & on g741; sign up there to if you haven't already done so -
Most of your parts needs are readily available...
...better yet, just pay the fees that you are being charged for a COMPLETE truck. Screw the idea of trying to skirt the laws; you could get burned later.

...it's a Chevrolet diesel pickup, nothing more. It'll appreciate to a price that the market will bear... someone will pay a certain price for it, but no higher.
The actual scrap metal value is worth more than a rolling truck. You can spend a cumulative $10k over the years in purchase price &...
What you DO have to watch out for is blasting anything electrical with a high-pressure power washer that destroys any plastic connectors - I usually never clean under the hood of any vehicle that has old, brittle wiring or connectors... too much opportunity for something to get FUBAR'd... I use...
...wouldn't he have had to invent the wheel first?
I'm not new to the tear-drop scene; some family members had a tear-drop camper in late Sixties... I looked into building one about 8 years ago, but life & other projects took precedence. ;-)
What I liked was the 'military' theme -
