The pack I bought- a HELP product was labeled "GM". It contained both "A" and "B" types in it. The "B"B variety were labeled various thickness'. The "A" all seemed to be the same. Looking at the TM, there is a shim that looks like the "A" type. I went with one of those since even though the...
Gonna add shims to stop all the grinding. The TM shows a straight-ish looking shim- but this is for a Direct Drive starter. Is the gear reduction that I am using (28MT) the same or is the offset needed?
Be sure to:
Check that you are using the right starter bracket and bolt.
Use the right starter mounting bolts a dealer item
Clean the starter mounting surfaces, and... wait for it...
Shim, if needed. You'll have to remove the protector for the flexplate. 6-7 bolts and a bit of wiggling...
HOLY SMOKES! I found the problem. After hearing the solenoid engaging; but no starter motor, I took the inspection cover off of the flexplate. I see all this brass shavings up against the engine and the starter gear is stuck in the teeth of the flexplate. I have looked here before and never...
I ran a 10g wire from the starter solenoid to the 12v positive of the front battery. The starter solenoid was clearly engaging. I measured the voltage of the battery cable to the starter motor. It was 25v- I had just charged both batteries.
This seems to be the starter.
SO I will remove it...
Just got back in from further testing. I followed Dstang97 recommendation to:
I disconnected all wires from the starter relay; attached the red and purple wire to the remote pushbutton starter switch and got a noise from the starter solenoid- no cranking. The purple wire reads grounded when the...
I have load tested them and they act brand new.
RED/Purple together.- I'll report back Saturday afternoon. Got a auto painting Saturday.
Meanwhile: Since I only have 10.5 volts at the starter relay's Purple w/white wire, I am taking a look here for a leak. I could use some help figuring out...
FIXED! I found a rubber fuel line that runs from behind the fuel pump up the front of the engine- about 18" between steel lines. Had a knife type cut in it. Maybe I slipped with a screwdriver when taking the clamp off?
Anyways, I taped it with some of that wonder tape- the stretchy electrical...
My new battery cables, new starter relay solenoid and new starter forked about 5 times yesterday then I get >CLACK<.
I know you all are tired of this never ending thread; but since I have never figured out what the problem is, I never have been able to say it has been FIXED- only that it is...
I just bought a set of injectors for the M1009 that now seems to be up and running as of 20 minutes ago. The starter problem fixed, I discover air getting into my fuel line. Turned out to be the rubber hose that runs up toward the IP from the chassis near the fuel pump. Fixed a leak I found...
The design in the OP looks Heavy Duty; but I was thinking about the type of base that slips in between the bed rail and the base of the fiberglass top. It sticks out just enough to weld or bolt the uprights on to. I have seen them designed as tabs and as long plates that run the length of the...
I installed the Guard Dogs all around last fall. The guy at Les Schwabs pointed out that one of the tires had a hole in the sidewall. I called Treadwright and they asked me to send a picture of the hole. I did. three days later my replacement was here. It matched the BF A/Ts that they sent me...
Mistaken1, thanks for the help. I am not trying to beat the heat issue with a remote. Here is a link to a thread about this remote diagram I propose. I hope it will make things clear about why I wanted to go this route.
The info you provided is interesting. If you think my idea has merit, I'd...
I believe it is the original dash mounted. Anyone know what a good replacement would be? Is the solar panel all I would need, still ok to use the "BOX"?
Here is the wiring plan I ws trying to implement. It is a modification of one I posted at CK5.
Typically Ford Starter Solenoids are incorporated in GM/Chevy ignition circuits because of HOT START issues. I had hoped to try a modified version so that the stock starter solenoid gets less abuse...
It feels like a fuel starvation issue, so I opened the fuel bleed and cranked it 2-3 times. It finally started and will restart immediately. I can restart it as many times as I want. If I let it sit for 20 minutes though, it will need to be cranked and bled before a I can get it to start again...
Is this the norm? I know its probably OEM; but do these things need service? I checked the ground and main power wire, they look fine. Is there a test I can perform?
