IIRC the stud is 1/4". Should be easy to find at a box store. Not sure about the spacing but you might be able to simulate a stud with a jam nut on a headless bolt. Or screw a bolt all the way through from the other side of the starter ear.
Sounds like someone hopped in the truck that...
IIRC - the gauge cluster for my M1008 has three bulbs that provide light for the speedo and fuel gauges. All should light and dim from the headlight switch. Corrosion is a common problem. Can be either on the plastic circuit board, the outside contacts on the holders or internal to the...
Does your ring rise up or slope down on your trailer? If it rises up, you might get what you need by removing it and flipping it 180. A quick google for your trailer shows rings going both ways so it seems like it could be an easy fix. Did the same thing + flipping the nose bracket on my...
There are geared drive starters in 12V. Found one on my M1008 being fed 24V to the starter and 12v to the solenoid. It was a China made Delco unit that had a nice sticker. Replaced with 24v geared drive and fixed the PO modified cab starter wiring.
NOTE: the support brackets are different...
The ones on my M1101 are the round lens LED. Maybe they switched styles at some point.
If you can't find ones that match and you need red ones, maybe buy three of the round ones and swap out the ones on the rear facing triple fixture and use those for the side markers. At least then the...
Don't overlook using a foreign made engine. Might have to do some fab work but a lot of the European motors have decent power and life spans and might wind up being lighter then a 6.2 or Duramax. And an El Camino is basically a 2 person sedan with a large open trunk, not a heavy duty truck.
Another option for weatherstrip/seals : https://www.steelerubber.com/universal-parts
None of the door seals and window channel I ordered for my M1008 was made in China. IIRC - India and Taiwan. But at least no China rubber smell. And it fit perfect.
And their lookup starts with model year...
I would take the cargo cover off. Avoids the possibility of snow fall partially melting and creating a low spot that keeps growing and getting heavier.
A simple temporary solution for the cab is lay a 4x8 sheet of plywood/osb over the cab and secure in place.
Make sure you park the truck...
Finally got back to this after waiting for parts and taking time for muzzle loading deer season. (Oct 26-Nov 3 here).
After dropping the starter, found a Delco-Remy sticker and a 12V sticker. Also discovered a broken support bracket hanging off the starter and a second complete bracket...
Never done a complete rebuild. Replacing brushes on a Chevy 350 direct drive starter is fairly simple and the brushes were $4 from O'Rielly's a few years ago. Guessing the direct drive 24v version would be similar. No clue on the gear reduction versions.
Thump the end of the starter opposite the gear end. That's where the brushes live and if they are shot, sometimes you can get a start or two extra with a decent whack. Think rubber mallet whack.
If it is brushes, they are a few dollars to replace.
Yes, be worried. Lead paint was phased out after 1978 but existing stocks were allowed to be used until gone. Don't forget about possible asbestos from brake pads and wire insulation. The real danger is to children, either though direct exposure by wondering through your shop or via pets that...
Any plans for things like a microwave, hot plate or electric heater? Each of these can be a 15A load on one of the 120v legs.
2nd the thought of swapping existing lighting to LED.
Double check your air filter.
From personal experience, mice will sometimes nibble on that hose from the tank to the frame. Had a fuel starvation issue a block from my house due to a mouse chewing on both lines on a 75 Chevy C10 with dual 20 gallon tanks that were both full.
If your tank to...
I would be careful with the proximity stuff. Many years ago there was a short lived alarm system that would detect people within a couple feet and say something like "Please step away from the car!" Enough folks reacted to the rather pretentious warning by scratching the paint, kicking a door...
Is a utility type trailer like a M1101 or a semi type trailer? In OK, utility trailers don't require either tag or registration but I know that isn't the case in most states. In both of my purchases from OK GL sites, I just showed my purchase documents, hooked up and towed off.
I would...
I cut back some of the tape job(it looked nice, just like factory), and found the splice where they cut the yellow wire from the ignition switch and spliced in the orange wire. Solved my confusion. The diagrams show a yellow wire and the one that was fed to the purple wire was the same color...
I currently have mine out chasing starter relay wiring issues. That socket looks like a standard gauge light size that is found in many aftermarket below the dash gauges. I think you can find a replacement in the generic lights and sockets section of a parts house.
Also good to have if you install an automotive AM/FM radio. Most civilian alternators have one installed on the inside out of sight. Guess the military wanted one on the outside for ease of replacement.
