It was this way when purchased. One PO was a FD who passed along the maintenance records. One WO shows replacement of the under dash starter relay. Whoever did that did a good wiring job. Relay later failed shut which I verified by opening up. Another WO shows replacement of starter with a...
Double check all connections clean and good. Including battery terminals. Also pull off and push on the two wire connectors on the alts. One of the wires is the voltage sense wire that tells the alt how much volts to put out. If that connection is corroded, could be telling the alt to...
The stock pintile hitch on a CUCV should be pretty close to the stock height for a M1101/2. I swapped the tires on mine to lower it and it sits level behind a 75 C10 with a custom receiver hitch that comes straight back from the frame instead of under the bumper. A CUCV sits several inches...
Pretty sure the limitation is the oddball pintile bumper hitch. The pintile is mounted where the license plate would go on a civilian truck. Not the strongest place for a hitch. These trucks were designed with towing the M101A(1-3) series of trailers(or derivatives like the M116 series) in...
One thing to note is the top speed of about 55mph with the 6.2, 4.56 gears and stock tires. Due to rpm limits on the 6.2.
Any bumper for a C/K pickup will fit if you decide the military ones don't fill your needs. More likely on the rear then the front. No provision for a bumper ball...
A M1008 is basically a Chevy K30 with a diesel engine and parts of a 24V electrical system grafted onto the stock 12v system. Most of your K30 questions you don't find here are likely answered on a 73-87 Chevy Pickup forum.
My CUCV does drip a few drops of oil but nothing that isn't expected...
Heat can lower solar panel efficiency: https://www.civicsolar.com/article/how-does-heat-affect-solar-panel-efficiencies
If you have something similar to a pole barn, maybe an angle bracket off a side wall would do the trick.
Hot water can kill plants so avoid letting the overflow run to...
Not an deuce expert by any measure. Based on the symptoms mentioned, sounds like the driveshaft or related gearing to that axle is frozen. The tires turning free and opposite is the clue.
Make sure the air filter is clean. One big difference between gas and diesel motors is the airflow. Where gas motors regulate air flow via throttle plates and fuel flow is based on air flow, diesels have full air flow all the time and regulate fuel flow via the injectors(a very simplistic...
You already have some security due to the height of the cab. Most folks will have to climb up on the vehicle to look inside. Not that they won't but it does ruin the "I was just walking by" excuse if someone spots and confronts them. Something as simple as a piece of cardboard with aluminum...
A couple often overlooked pieces of fuel hose are the one from the tank sender to the metal frame line. And the one from the metal frame line to the fuel pump. Unless you have an in tank fuel pump, both hoses are under vacuum and won't leak much fuel out but will let a lot of air in. Plus...
Looks like what I would expect if Gen1 isn't charging. Red wire is voltage sense - it tells the alt what the voltage is at the other end(usually a junction terminal). Brown is the wire from the light. 12v is expected when the key is on but engine not running. Current goes from the Gen1 bulb...
As someone who used to work for state government in OK as an IT person, the various agencies don't work in a vacuum. They attend conferences, sometimes national, sometimes regional. Sometimes the leaders go, sometimes middle management, rarely the folks that really do the work. (They often...
Chevy 73-87 squarebody trucks, from which the M10xx line were made, are rising in value. 10' quality restorations are in the $5000~10,000 range or higher. Show quality can go much higher depending on options and modifications. Don't know if the insurance companies are factoring that in or...
If you haven't already, check and clean the two wire plug to the alternator. The brown wire of the pair is the one that goes back to the Alt light in the cluster. Use care, the red wire of the pair is the voltage sense wire and should be hot even when disconnected from the alternator.
Measured the pulley on my alts. 3" pulleys.
Hard to tell with the black belt on the black pulley with the dark background but is the top of your belt pretty close to flush with the top of the pulley? In too far, it might be bottoming out. Out too far and you loose grip area.
Something to check and adjust air pressure in the tires. Proper sized tool to remove tire, just in case. Jack to handle same. If you have it, you won't need it. If you don't have it....
Most military trailers expect a more elevated hitch then the average civilian trailer. Most under bumper...
As far as the batteries are concerned, no issues leaving them connected provided you verify the polarity before connecting the chargers. Don't trust the cable colors. A red cable from the + terminal of one battery will likely still be red when it connects to the - terminal of the next battery...
If you don't need it to read "Diesel Fuel Only", any fuel gauge from a 73-87 square body PU or up to 89 Suburban will work. My original was stuck at 3/4. Swapped in a spare I had for my 75 C10 and now I have a working gauge. Just have to ignore the Unleaded Fuel labeling. May eventually get...
