    M1008 dragged home today...

Nope, it wasn't recommended but sure makes sense lol. I'm making a parts run today so going to buy new glow plugs while I'm there. I might as well change them if I'm going to pull them to spin faster. Four have previously been replaced but the other owner, the other 4 haven't so I am going to...

Can't remove 3 lifters from block of 6.2

BINGO! There should be no reason for roller lifters to be mushroomed from my experience. The lifter body is not in contact with the cam. To the OP, are you sure they are mushroomed and not just a buildup from previous poor maintenance? Maybe a 8k miles on a new speedometer? If it's a buildup...

    M1008 dragged home today...

Working at it again today while I could stand the cold, getting some smoke, she wants to fire. Called it quits when the starter wouldn't stop....Doghead relay here I come lol. Made that change and no power in the cab. I think it was the ignition switch on the column that crapped out, it was...

    M1008 dragged home today...

Just took another look, it does appear that it did have one. There are 4 riv-nuts left behind. Guess I'll be looking for one of them now lol.

    M1008 dragged home today...

I didn't get a chance to work on it today. Ended up have to drive my stepson's car to Binghamton and meet my wife down there for an appointment and didn't get home till 5pm. Supposed to only be 15° tomorrow so I doubt I'll feel the urge to freeze my tail of bleeding more lol. I should probably...

    M1008 dragged home today...

I seen that thread yesterday when searching, I didn't figure I'd post there when something was mentioned about being Army info. I don't recall seeing any holes behind the seat but I will look tomorrow. This is on the tailgate however. I didn't post it before because I don't think it's painted...

    M1008 dragged home today...

Mike seems to be a pretty good guy, he has 2 more M1008's for sale. One for $4500 and the other $6 or $7, I don't remember. He's got a HMMWV there too that I'd love to have but they bring too much money for this poor man, and after a conversation with the NY DMV tech office they're going to be...

    M1008 dragged home today...

I think it was fair. I went up knowing it wasn't going to start. I based my offer on what I've seen of regular commercial civilian trucks conditions around here and this trucks condition. I gave myself wiggle room that I'd feel comfortable with if it ends up needing an IP or other issues. For...

    M1008 dragged home today...

Thanks guys, yes it's very complete. Only thing missing is one of the rear shackles. Under the hood is a bit dirty, lots of tree debris thats been blown in and usual leak residue but unmolested. I picked up 2 Exide 925cca batteries today and started checking everything. I can hear the glow plug...

    M1008 dragged home today...

Thanks, Tinstar. Something else that kinda made me happy, I've noticed in reading other threads that the rifle mounts were many times missing. They are both still installed in this truck, which is great. I hunt coyotes a lot so a Winchester 12 will sit at one side while my AR will sit in the...

    M1008 dragged home today...

...pushing the F-350 tow vehicle around the whole way lol. With much debate I decided my back wouldn't handle a 20+ hour round trip, not to mention the possibility of a problem on the way back that I wouldn't be able to afford to tow. I took the trip to Grand Gorge today to meet with Mike and...

    Window won't roll up

The driver's side window on my '71 GMC did the same all the time. Slide down nice but a bear to roll up. I drilled a hole in the hand crank mechanism so a couple times a year I could douse the inside with lithium grease through the little red tube.

    CUCV M1009 engine problem

cucvrus beat me to it lol. Was going to edit my post to add..check your cooling system and look for bubbles in the radiator, also check your oil for presence of antifreeze (milky looking oil).

    CUCV M1009 engine problem

White smoke is a symptom of water in the combustion chamber. The thicker the fog the worse the problem. BTDT Not sure what else would cause white smoke. Not really smoke, but usually reported as.

    Questions about an '86 CUCV

I won't be giving up none to soon. I have a line on a good truck for a reasonable price, just a long drive to where it is. Was hoping to find something closer but I'm thinking I might be better off taking the long drive, I honestly don't think I can do better for the price. If I go for that one...

Buzzing noise from locking hub, repair or replace?

+1 what cucvrus said. I never worried about any corrosion in any that I had and a couple of my trucks spent most of the time I owned them in the deep mud. Just a good periodic cleaning and made sure to use a good quality synthetic grease to help repel water. Some cheap greases will mix with the...

    Questions about an '86 CUCV

Probably right, too many people now don't know how to work on their own vehicles, even if they wanted to. Effects of our 'throw away culture'? If I had the time and mode of transport there have been a few trucks I could have picked from to tear down and make right. But it is what it is. I...

    Questions about an '86 CUCV

The part that bothers me is the lack of simple trouble shooting to sell a vehicle. For my personal vehicles I only buy old trucks for the simplicity. My wife requires the newer cars. I hate 'em, that part of needing a $200 scanner to talk to the computer to isolate a problem just doesn't sit...

    Questions about an '86 CUCV

Really wish I had more cash, I'd drive down there without hesitation. Unfortunately our budget took a hit from what I mentioned in the PM so I'm stuck with a maximum amount I can spend :( It's looking like I'm just gonna have to suck it up and make sure I bring enough pain pills with me for a...
