The M51/52/54 trucks and the 800 series use more or less the same transfer case and air shifting system. With the air system charged (at least 75 psi or higher), and the engine off, just jack up the front end (both sides) and try to rotate the wheels with the transmission in a forward gear. If...
I suggest the best addition we can all add to our low use trucks is a solar charger of some type to keep the batteries chaged. All the problems with batteries, starting and charging systems would be, in my best guess, reduced if the batteries stayed fully charged. Not trying to preach, just an...
Your transfer case shifter air valves are leaking on top of the transmission. Try some air tool oil in the air intake of the compressor and check the bolts that hold the valve bodies together on the side of the shifter top. Look through the battery door and use a long extention. Cycle the...
Our truck, being a bridge truck, sat around most of its life, so the throwout bearing dried out and started to howl right after we got it finished. Since we had to remove everything anyway, I ordered a full set (pressure plate, bearing and disk) to do the job only once. At the time , Memphis...
While we don't get the long term low temps you guys get, it does go below zero here enough so you have to watch the fuel. Our off-road equipment was burning straight #2 for the lase 3 years with no problems, except for we had to watch for water. Every time we had a problem, it was water/ice...
Mack powered trucks have a different front cross member, OD tranny, a cut on the frame rail on the right side, return lines for fuel and a few other small items that the gassers don't have. Have studied our M52A1 vs the M139 gasser.
If it was a gasser, I would guess that top speed would only be about 45 or so (2,100 rpm). Was tranny changed too? If not, great site rig but not so good down the road.
Up here, we now have 4 types of fuel: dyed heating oil, dyed off-road low sulfur fuel untaxed, clear low sulfur taxed fuel and dyed kero. If you are caught with dyed fuel in an over the road truck == big fines. Now the fuel police (EPA) are out checking the off-road equipment tanks for the low...
The link M1075 posted shows the bridge truck wheels and the axles on our water truck.
The 10x20 wheels on all the bridge trucks (M139, M328, M812, and M9??) are all very deep dish and will not bolt up to the standard 5 ton axle without the spacers or the wider rear axles used on these trucks...
I e-mailed Ted Hill awhile ago about the truck beds he has. They are not the M812 beds, but some type of rollback bed that is not as wide as the M812's. The bridge truck beds are over 10' wide so they will need a special permit if you run them on the road.
Bjorn:
It looks like the fuel pump is on top of the heater, under the box cover but I may be wrong. I have never seen another one of these heaters except in pictures, so I can't be sure. What manual/truck was your diagram from? Can't tell if the heater is under the hood or on the outside fender.
Yes, its my best guess that the "new" gas is the problem. They (NHDES) outlawed the use of MTBE in gas within the last couple of years, so the gas companies now use 10% ethyl-alcohol in the gas for pollution control (high O2 contentent). The floats are made of some type of foam like material...

No one has any ideas? If I knew who made these little carbs, I would try to get a brass replacement made. There are carb repair houses that can do this work, but they need alot of input.
Thanks
I am posting this on the 5 ton page as we expect to install this in our M-52A1.
Just got a NOS heater from a seller in MA that as you can see from the photos, is just the bare heater, no other parts. I am guessing that the unit installs in the same location as the hot water heaters, on the...
Anyone know where to get replacement floats for the 4a032 engine carbs? Had an issue with the original carb, so installed a new carb from Saturn, and still the float swells and sticks in the body of the carb. Any suggestions? Sanded the float down and sealed with a gas proof (who knows?)...
Not to hi-jack this thread, but I did see a Detroit engine run-away in reverse one day at a jobsite when I was just a kid (35 years!! ago). The trucker jumped the clutch and the engine coughed and rolled backwards and kept running. The emergency butterfly on the intake housing to the blower...
I could be wrong, but I think the gasser's torque hits its max at about 1800-1900 rpm. However, you have to drive it like a Detroit to get the best performance. Have lugged ours down to about 1100-1200 in high or 4th and it still keeps pulling.
Also, the weight of our truck was 22,000# on a certified scale with about a full tank of fuel and no driver. Tank is aluminum, only 6 tires now, and rear fenders are plastic.
Somewhere on here there are photos of our truck with the rear axles singled, using the stock wheels and tires. Just left the front stock. I just don't know how to cut and paste.
