    What is wetstacking?

    Roll Over?

Russians are like cats. They always land on their feet. I'd say that's not bad driving after a fifth or two of vodka. He easily had another 10 degrees or so before it became dangerous. Seemed to know when to stop.

M105A2 Trailer ... Anybody know the weight of the bed?

http://www.steelsoldiers.com/trailers/15970-m105a2-trailer-bed.html I read a bobbed thread last year where the guy weighed a 105 A3 bed & it was somewhere around 900 lbs. I can't find it now.

    900 lbs give or take.

Discussion of combining 24 and 12 volt systems

That's not necessarily true. I found out the hard way that if you accidentally leave the lights on after shutting off the truck the 24V batteries will back-drain through the12V alternator to the +12V side of the 12V battery. The headlights will glow dimly (b/c it's only seeing 12V of potential...

    5.9 Cummins, NV4500, Hydro-boost, and Disc Brakes

Mudguppy, How are those front rotors mounted? Are they welded to the hub? You said the hubs were included b/c you bought multiple kits. So if you ever had to replace the rotors due to warping or gouging would you have to re-order an entire hub/rotor for Differential Engineering? Also, is...

    5.9 Cummins, NV4500, Hydro-boost, and Disc Brakes

Mudguppy, Kudos on the excellent fabrication skills. How much energy do your custom disc brakes dissipate? The individual stock Deuce brake drums dissipate 12,000 watts each. In other words, can your brakes handle a full-sized, loaded Deuce?

    Dash/Guage qustion

They reset the "hours" gauge every time the engine is swapped or rebuilt. But the "miles" is not reset to facilitate maintenance of the chassis.

    axle ratio?

Gladiator, There's only so much you can do with the stock brakes. No matter what type of brakes, the most you can expect from them is full lockup, i.e. tires skidding. Drum brakes will lock up just like disc brakes will. Therefore, there is no advantage to disc brakes over a well-maintained...

    axle ratio?

It doesn't matter how you get the overall ratio. Whether it's via differential gears, transmission overdrive, or tires. The only thing lower differential ratios like 4.90 will do is slightly reduce heating in the differential. I doubt you would see an appreciable savings in fuel due to this...

    axle ratio?

The easiest way to improve axle ratio is by tire size. Tire diameter is linearly proportional to road speed for a fixed RPM. If you double the tire size, you'll double the speed for that RPM. Or, conversely, you'll only need 1/2 the RPM's for the same linear speed down the highway. Now, of...

    GL was easy!

Sorry to hear about your bad experience. I will say though that I too have some question as to whether GL pads the prices during the last few minutes of the auctions. I've watched several auctions, and participated in several as well, where the price jumped by literally thousands of dollars...

    Lifting a Bobbed Deuce

Ridgerunner, Are you still running them with 4" of backspacing on the 10" wide rims? If so, what kind of bump-steer problems have you had with it? It seems hitting a pot hole with that wide stance would rip the steering wheel out of your hand.

what to do with surplus Beds and Trailers?

The axles aren't necessary to support the bearings? I didn't know the rears had spindles. Do you have any photos of your build?

what to do with surplus Beds and Trailers?

Mikew, Do you have any M105A3 axles sitting around? I need one to make a tandem-axle trailer like yours. But I want to use the M105 A3 surge axles. I already have the trailer w/ one axle. I just need the other axle, no springs or hangers necessary. That goes for anyone else out there...

Help ID My Camo Pattern Please

It's a 1971 Kaiser. I have no idea how many times it's been repainted. I think it's an Army truck. It has a chess set "knight" with some folded pawns on the hood. If anyone knows the camo pattern and colors it would be greatly appreciated.

    four door deuce?

Actually, the M36 isn't as bad as you think wrt the turning radius. I pulled into my house on the first shot the other day, right between the fence and the gas meter. In fact, the longer wheelbase seems to distribute the weight of the truck better, making turning the front tires just a little...

    locking a deuce cab

I've thought an extra long deadbolt mounted flush with the cab would look pretty good. Not in the door mind you, but right behind the door. The extended bolt would go through some fabricated brackets that are either bolted or welded to the door. Gates often use flush mounted deadbolts. It...

    GL was easy!

That's a 1971 Kaiser. I bought it from one of the SS members last year. I have no idea where the color scheme comes from. It's an old Army truck. When the green troop seats are in the bed it looks awesome. I love that beat up, flat, paint-brushed look. I like the desert camo. The wife...

    How much work is a

Because of all the rock crawlers & monster trucks using Rockwell axles, the parts are actually MORE available as far as axles, bearings, seals, etc. They even have ARB air lockers & custom geared ring&pinions out there. It has a divorced transfer case. That means tranny/engine swaps are a...
