I came outside a few weeks ago to find my door wide open and several of the switches out of position. Someone had jumped in and played around. Luckily I have kill switches on the batteries. Short of push-starting there's no way they could have got it running.
And I have two full-time...
I totally understand it's an auction & it can go tit-for-tat.
What got under my skin is the guy bidding against me waited until there was less than a minute left. I was watching it count down. There was about 20 seconds left when the guy upped the bid.
I'm sorry, but that's just wrong...
Yes. Working with GL was not complicated. Maybe I just got lucky.
I purchased an M36 in mid-September. I paid with PayPal. I filled out the EUC. I had to scan it & send it back twice (my fault, not GL's. I overlooked a few check boxes). I waited about 2 1/2 months, which was fine since I...
I read a post on here last year where someone found a spring shop that made custom leaves.
The idea was to remove the two, short, top leaves in the rear spring pack. Two custom, longer leaves are then placed in the stack to allow for spreading the tandem axles farther apart w/ lengthened...
As I understand it, the bulk of the A3's were made from parts cannibalized from A2's, I read somewhere it was something like 2-3 A2's plus a few new parts to make the A3's. That would make some of the A3 components quite old.
Am I smoking bananas or did I read that somewhere?
What is the off-road advantage of having the fronts & rears track the same?
Stock 4x4's that I've had in the past had different axle widths front/rear for some reason.
I totally understand now, thanks to Doghead & others.
The reason I asked is because I'm new to large trucks. I've been around 4x4's for ages but have only had a Deuce for a year.
I'm making mine into an off-road RV. I'm a geologist, occasional fossil hunter, and avid outdoor enthusiast. I...
Aha, that makes sense. But the kingpin is strong enough to take the load, correct? Otherwise the 4x4 guys running big deep-dish tires would be shearing the pin during hard turns right?
On large trucks such as the Deuce or any other big truck the front rims are always positive offset (as opposed to negative "deep dish" offset).
I am a novice to large truck design. I'm just curious why every large truck has positive offset on the steer axle? Is it simply to aid steering or is...
Thanks for the info. One last question for you guys.
Do I have to get an SF97 & title it?
I was pretty much just planning to use it for parts. On the EUC I boxed "for intended use." I did that because I didn't want to be under the 30 day salvage regulation. If I chop it up (not the frame...
Thanks, that's good to know.
It's an M36. Unknown year. I'm guessing it's late 60's or early 70's. No gauges & the data plate isn't legible for the year.
It's going to get a crew cab + keep the stock M35 bed from another truck. I'm like the guy from Long John Silvers. I want it all.
The...
Now what?
The Government Liquidation website says that I have to bring photo ID, proof of registration & insurance & cleared EUC.
Will the Site Manager at the base have a copy of my cleared EUC? Do i bring my original EUC form that I emailed off a few months ago? All I could find on the GL...
That would be great. Thanks.
While you are under there with the camera, please make sure to snap several pics of the 1" pin. I've never seen how that was done.
Is there any difference in the HEMMET (HEMMT) rims used for the Deuce conversions?
There's a guy in the classified that has them for $250 a piece. I know C&C has them for $400 including shipping. They both look really good.
Is there any difference? Does one company balance them better or...
5 ton GVWR = not legal in residential areas where I live
Deuce GVWR = legal for residential areas
Otherwise there would be an expandable M820 camper conversion sitting in my driveway. ;-)
:deadhorse:
Jesus,
How about this: a dual, full-hydro steering with a separate ram for each rear axle.
Bolted to each tie rod is an old-fashioned manual rack-and-pinion unit that is bolted directly to the axle housing. Any lightweight application would do, Ford, Chevy, etc. They can be...
Yes, the technology is out there.
But we're talking about steering both the rear axles at the same time plus keeping it street legal.
I would further add that such a modification should not limit the articulation of the rears, nor reduce the payload rating via a re-engineered suspension...
That would be the legal-ease answer for the front steering. I do not think it would apply to a securely pinned rear-steer-off-road-only setup. The current stock setup bounces all over the place as it is. The evidence being my open jaw when I first saw those tandems in the side mirror dancing...
I looked at the rear suspension better today. The torque rods allow each axle to swing independently of the other axle. The intermediate drive shaft is splined to allow for differing lengths between the two axles.
A mechanical linkage would bind up when under articulation.
I don't see why a...
