OK, so I've gone through 3 of these (Kats) and have yanked them all out after about a year in the truck. Each one I had started leaking around the joint between the brass housing and where the heating elements pass through. I got tired of seeing the small puddle of coolant under the trucks...
I just completed updating the fuel fills on my trucks to civilian fills, body brackets, and locking pre-release green fuel caps.
There's enough foam from the smaller diameter nozzles IMO.
However, I would probably have avoided the extra work and expense if there was a locking cap that fit the...
I went the other way, added Civilian lockable caps on civilian filler necks. Diesel is too expensive here what with all our contributions to the state built in to the price not to have them locked up.
This also makes it a wee bit harder for someone to put gasoline in, as the new caps are that...
I don't recall ever paying that much per gallon. More like $20+ at Wally world. In the cold my engines spin faster on startup. I did not measure with a tach, but it was noticeable to my highly tuned ear rofl.
Startup noise, assuming you mean cold start clatter, is really not affected by the...
According to the General Spring website, they are the same length and width. I think the Burb's usually had lighter capacity ratings.
Why are you looking to downgrade your pickup to "lighter" springs?
I have used both General Spring and Stengel Brothers. I recommend either, but do lean to...
Nice work! I'd be interested in understanding the cost of this transplant. Making me think twice about a 6.2/6.5 replacement if my engines quit.
Looks like you will be turning about 2300 RPM in fifth gear at 65 MPH with the 4500, assuming 32's.
That is one of the beauties of a free floating axle. As long as the hub/spindle/bearings are in good shape and the retaining nut is doing it's job, the truck will drive straight.
As for what could be responsible for the flange/backing plate damage? Don't really know, but clearly someone...
Like Phil I have the German made one's and love them. No tiny little clips. No leaks. No worries. I got mine from Badger Diesel, who also makes them available on a popular auction web site. Sends you a length you trim to fit, plus two of the end caps.
How are you checking miles traveled? If you are using the truck's odometer, could it be off showing less miles traveled than actual?
I am getting 20+ MPG in my M1009. I use a GPS and also online mapping to validate the odometer is in the ballpark.
Don't forget to loosen the shoes. Procedure is simple. Special drum brake tools help a bit, but can be done with a screwdriver.
The shoes don't span the entire width of the braking surface of the drum. There is usually about a 1/8" gap. Often times the drums will develop rust in this area...
