Warthog, I'd replied to this post but I guess it didn't take. Here's trying it again...
I was in OKC two weekends ago. If it runs and drives and is roadworthy, I wouldn't mind driving that thing 584 miles (13 hrs @ 45 mph). I'm sure it's not the smoothest ride, but it would be a memorable trip...
I received word back from the owner today (5 minutes ago) and he said it was given to him and he promised he wouldn't sell it. I guess its fate is to rot in this south Louisiana climate. :(
This truck appears to me to be an M37. Being a TOTAL noob to these trucks I understand that some trucks made by other companies can look very similar to this and vice versa. It's sitting on the side of the road near an off road customization business. I'll be contacting them today about it, but...
I don't think contact info will be needed. The only way I could get one of those beasts to my house would be to drive it 591 miles (13 hrs @ 45 mph) and that's not possible in a non-runner. It's a shame that so few were made.
I'd like to keep the thing as electronic-free as possible, so...
How common are these majestic beasts? Has anyone had a successful up-powered transplant? What would be an acceptable buying price for an unmolested, running truck with average mileage/hours in average cosmetic condition? This info could help me get some ducks in a row before I find the one...
So my heart has been set on an 809 series truck for a while. Well, that was until I came across this. WOW. Too bad the top speed is 45mph. Are military super singles even made for these trucks (24" wheels, I mean)? That is a FANTASTIC-looking vehicle you have. I see the hood is about even with...
It's a beautiful truck. I'll post pictures if that's permissible. It looks to me (untrained eye) to be restored. My ideal MV is a 2.5 or 5 ton crew cab with civilian paint and super singles. I wouldn't want to do that to this truck and it's not as appealing to my eye.
