Continental MPT-81 in stock 365/80R20 (14.5 R20) on the fronts, original Michelin X series 14.5R20 on the back. Getting ready to buy another axle set of MPT-81 and will eventually have them on all 3 axles.
Those old Chevys have a POS electrical system. I have a 82 k10 and the electrical system is its Achilles heel. I wound up re-wiring the battery/charging system with 1/0 cable. Next will be the engine control.
Gary is right on the money regarding CTIS - it looks cool, keeps the unique A3 features, but unless you offload continuously, sucks for highway. I have mine all rebuilt, but turn it off and manually inflate each wheel to 55 psi. Since I've rebuilt the rims for leaky grommets, etc. there's...
Erik is a good guy and is located in San Marcos or Vista as I recall. He is super prompt and super helpful. He carries all the little A3 specialty bits like grommets and o rings at a reasonable price. Nice guy. All the construction water truck guys use him for parts. That's how I originally...
If I wanted to disable my A3 CTIS, I would remove the plastic tube & fitting connecting the wheel valve to the fill stem in the rim on each wheel. I would then use a plumbing reducing fitting to adapt the 3/8 stem pipe thread to a standard 'schrader' valve - the same type of valve used on...
Uh, I beg to differ. My stock A3 definitely has an in tank electric pump. It makes a distinctive clack- clack sound just like the pump on my Howell efi system I put on my CJ-5.
:ditto:
Exactly right. Anytime I break down a rim, I wire brush the o ring groove and all rust. I then treat all rust spots with rust neutralizing paint and then top coat with OD. There are lots of places inside the rim halves that water can collect and rust. A little pm when changing...
I doubt it is the o rings. A quick search of this site will show the bazillion posts on the loss of air - slow and fast - due to the rotten rubber grommet where the stem enters the rim. It also is prone to the thread rotting out on the stem for the brass nut that secures the stem through the...
The pole transformer for standard supply has the neutral bonded. The gen set should be as well afaik check NEC. There is no ground loop through physical earth. Wired earth ( protective earth) yes, but the soil, no.
If you know the actual Napa stock number, most of their lubricants have the manufacturer data sheets available through their website. You can get much more detailed info this way. I had similar questions regarding the brief blurb on the pail label versus my $$$ Allison transmission in my A3...
Arrow points in direction of airflow through the reg and toward the drag link inlet.
Search the site and you'll see the post I made showing how to add a tire valve to the little plugged port on the top front of the reg so you can set the pressure correctly to 40psi. Most guys with A3s use...
The stock location for the regulator is beneath the front of the engine inside the left frame rail 'U' opposite where the drag link is. Check the A3 TMand search the bizillion posts on the topic.
You'd be better advised to not squirt oil into the compressor intake and instead remove the fitting for the air inlet into the drag link valve that controls the aom and put a thimbleful of airtool oil or marvel mystery oil into the drag link air inlet. Then reconnect and air up, rock the...
There's a bizillion aom discussion threads, many by A3 owners just getting a GL truck and having issues. Almost all of them have some mention of the regulator leaking. This is the most common problem. They vent through the little hole in the bottom, which is actually an aluminum screw-on...
The mpt is a different bead configuration in both size and angle than other rims. Your choices in stock replacement tire are either the Michelin 14.5 R20, which rot and wear quickly or the Continental mpt-81 in size 365/80 R20. The 14.5R20 size designation is now obsolete and you'll do better...
If you remove the cylindrical cover that screws on over the bottom, it exposes the adjustment knob. It is a standard regulator and you screw in the knob for more pressure and screw it out for less, assuming that the reg is working. These regs are very often leaking and inoperative. It...
Fed DOT rules on air brakes (including air assisted brakes) is that cut-in must be at 90 or more and cut-out at 125. System must be protected with relief valve at 150psi. Also requires supply gauge and audible alarm, which triggers at 60 psi. Must build to 100 psi from 85 psi within 45...
Maybe the tank is full of crud too and the fuel strainer at the pickup is full of crud. If the tank is full of crud, the new filters may now be full of crud too. I always start at the source and work toward the engine. How's the flow coming from from the tank pump? As I recall, the A2 has one.
