I looked at 5 M1009s before buying. There were pop riveted rust repairs on floor boards, Rhino lining, after market wheels, missing interior door panels, no spare or jack, rusted out fenders, modified wiring... it goes on and on. Most were in 4500.00 to 6000.00 range. It is easy to spend...
The ones 86humv has are the later style. All you would need are a few fasteners. I would buy the sets as the butt stock brackets seem harder to find. Installation has been discussed on G503.
Another point about mounting hitch on airlift bumper. The Army developed a kit to strengthen the bumper, I believe for towing the M1102 trailers. I have seen these advertised for sale.
Agree with all the above advice. You might want to drain the fuel tank and replace the rubber drain plug. Be careful removing the old one and do not over tighten the new one. If there is a part you cannot find on SS or internet remember many of the H1 parts will work. I had good luck with...
Good picture TM 9-2320-280-34P figure 196. There are 2 types of barrel clamps. The later adjustable one will not allow the windshield to fold. You only need it for M203 on M16. These all require drilling of dash and floorboards.
Thank you for posting cost of fixing one of these correctly. This should be helpful for new guys looking to buy one. As always you spend it up front or later hence the current asking prices.
M998 soft top does not seem that much louder than '94 H1 wagon. With soft doors off it does not bother me. My M998 is USMC with undercoating so maybe that helps. Weight should always be considered, I think, when adding anything to the HMMWV especially the early 6.2.

I agree the GM diesel market was "poisoned" for a long time due to the converted gasoline engine fiasco. Still have to explain to some that the 6.2 is a different engine and the same one the army selected for the early HMMWVs
