Recently finished a swap to 1 ton axles on my m1009. My rear shaft-axle "stock" u joint is a 3R-1350 conversion joint. Drove me crazy until i got it right. I must have 3 other u joints in the wrong size laying around. By your description it sounds like what you may have.
