    Break lights arent working.

I discovered my brake lights didn't work on my Deuce sometime after I got it. It had already been converted to the air switch vs the hydraulic switch, but the air switch wasn't working anymore. I couldn't find anyone who sold only the switch (everyone had the whole kit) so I ended up buying a...

    WA / OR non-CDL guys

Not according the the Washington RCW. The presence of air brakes doesn't automatically mean CDL.

    well... shes dead.

Likely only one belt failed, but it took the other belt out when it did. Problem is it's hard to tell which one went first if it tore both up. If both alternators have wobbly pulleys, the bearings are probably shot... that's a common symptom of having the belts too tight. But I'd also check...

    Deuces hard on asphalt?

I left my Deuce in the driveway (asphalt) when we hit 103 here in W. Washington last year. Didn't do any damage at all. But... if I pull out onto the street when it's over 85 degrees I chew up the asphalt street when turning slowly. Actually I'm not sure the street really is asphalt... might...

    Radioactive Deuce?

Eating (lead) paint chips shields you from the radiation... ...or not.

    Radioactive Deuce?

I work on vintage Unlimited hydroplanes (from the 50s and 60s) that use WWII airplane engines (Allisons and Merlins). The gauges we use are all old aircraft gauges- Tach, oil pressure, fuel pressure, temp, boost pressure, etc. Almost all of them glow, they're all WWII radium dials. We have...

    PBR jet pumps correct?

Yeah, I saw those. The 14YJ (which all that sold today were) is the PBR jet, but the ones that were for sale looked too new to be originals. They are still available new, from North American Marine Jet, so these were probably ones bought as replacements- and possibly meant to be SAP aid to...

Bring a machete for this recovery

That's what, 2, 3 hours worth of Kudzu growth? By the time you read this the truck will be fully assimilated into a Kudzu bush. I like how it's INSIDE the truck. I had Himalayan Blackberries grow up through the shifter boot of one of my Datsuns, which I only noticed when I tried to take it...

    New m1009 owner, odd sound.

Well, if it rocks side to side, that's bad. They have a fan clutch, so the fan will still spin freely. but it shouldn't have any noticeable side play or axial movement.

    New m1009 owner, odd sound.

Have you done the simple? Like, with the engine OFF grab the fan and see if it moves side-to side. That's one of the sounds a water pump makes in it's death throes when the end bearing is coming apart. Of course, belt idlers make the same death noises.

    Dumb electrical question...

Around 14.3V is a good alternator output. 12.3V is a good charged, but not chargING, battery. Though to know for sure compare the voltage of the battery when the engine is off vs when it's running. It should ALWAYS be higher when running.

    m1009 fan belts

The NAPA by me carries Gates belts, though they are NAPA branded. I had overly-long belts on my 1028 that were screeching at the end of the adjuster, took the parts numbers from the FAQ and the belts fit perfect. They SEEM too small, but only if you try rolling them over the alternator pulley...

Fined for running WMO (not me)

Well, if they built a car as light as they did back in the 70s-mid 80s, you could get 50MPG from a compact car too. Probably more- the 1978 B210 MPG model was running a 2-bbl carb and primitive electronic ignition. And no catalytic converter... But Americans want power, so a 65-HP 1.4L car...

Best Thing You've Found in Your CUCV

My CUCV came with a few extras. Mostly residue piping and hoses from the foam pumper unit that used to be in the bed, but also: 2 Firefighting helmet lights, with battery packs, still functional (though I don't have a charger for 'em) 1 roll of electrical tape, never opened 2 cans of ether...

    WA / OR non-CDL guys

I actually messed up there. You CAN tow a trailer over 10,000 without a CDL as long as the COMBINED GVW doesn't exceed 26,001. So as long as the Superduty doesn't have a GVW of 12,001 or more, you'd be OK. The "interpretation" given by the Dept of Licensing has a hole in it- the situation...

    WA / OR non-CDL guys

The omission of "engaged in commerce" in the WA CDL requirements appears to have been done to keep folks from driving tandem tanker trucks around for "personal use". The wording is pretty specific, stating that occasional drivers (such as salespersons and mechanics, who aren't engaged in...

    WA / OR non-CDL guys

If Washington has a Non-Commercial Class A license, they're doing a good job of hiding it. There's nothing in the state DOL or RCWs about non-commercial "Classed" licenses, and the only endorsement I can find is a Motorcycle endorsement. Intent or purpose doesn't enter into it in Washington...

    anyone make the movies?

No movies, the best I can recall is my Reserve Unit caused a retake of a Taco Time commercial when we convoyed past the closed road that they were shooting on (The "Road" was actually a striped driveway for a School in Kingston). 2 5-tons, 2 Deuces, and a number of CUCVs make a lot of noise. I...

Price of a 1008, how much is too much

I got my 1028 off GSA for $930, just had to change batteries and drove it 250 miles home as-was. Mind you it's white and red and missing the blackout lights, but I figured that was a fair price. Anything over $2000 better run and run nice, have a clear title and plates.

    How many M715's are there?

You could find out how many are registered, either on regular registration or collector(historic/antique/etc) plates, but that won't show how many were on municipal "Exempt" plates, as they aren't "in the system". My CUCV's VIN wasn't in the computer even though it had municipal plates for over...
