What is the proper way to fill the M35A2 cooling system?
I DO NOT have a heater attached to my cooling system.
I had a very small coolant leak at both of the intake manifold hoses (a very slow "drip, drip, drip" once the cooling system built up pressure) caused by loose hose clamps. I...
another shipping bid received...
now down to just over $2.25/mile...
I guess the days of $1.50/mile are LONG GONE!
(Although I did manage a shorter-length Deuce haul last year at just over $1.00/mile, so I guess it all depends on the driver's NEED to fill the return of a "dead-head" trip!)...
MAYBE ITS JUST ME but the truck doesn't look lifted to me.....
The axles centers appear to be at about the same height as (or just below) the running board step. That's the same as on my stock deuce......
Here's a better attempt at a Roll Cage!
(on an old GMC M135, but you get the idea.....)
Even THIS cage would probably fail to support the truck's weight, but given that it is a multi-point cage that surrounds the cockpit a greater level of protection is afforded.
Yeah, I'LL BET HE CAN mod any deuce like this for $7000!!!
& a roll bar is only a roll bar if it is actually strong enough to support the weight of the truck when it is rolled over! Otherwise it is simply a "light bar". That bar is WAY TOO LIGHTWEIGHT to serve as a roll bar!
(HMMMmmmm... I...
It is all about image.
UPS doesn't want their used up trucks to be driven around by "Bob's Delivery Express".
Their Big Brown Trucks are recognized as UPS trucks, even w/o any UPS markings.
Just think about all of the worn-out retired U-Haul trucks that you see on the roads!
I'm really...
I don't have an issue with the look...
(ALTHOUGH I would want to paint "Tonka" on the tailgate!)
My only concern would be to question HOW it was shortened!?
-IF the frame was shortened from the rear & the springs & axles were relocated fwd I'd want to see if it was done correctly...
-BUT IF a...
I've been known to grab a "cold one" & just sit in one of my project cars/trucks & VEG after a rough day at work...
Sometimes I've even been caught making "motor noises" & pretending to drive... :driver:
...and this was in a car sitting on jackstands w/o any wheels or motor installed...
Be sure to look thru the TROUBLESHOOTING MANUALS (available in the wiki, or via Deuce FAQ link)
There is a pretty good section in there for the Fuel System.
(Hopefully you've already discovered this!)
I received a shipping bid for this....
from Redding, CA to Statesboro, GA
ONLY $8939.00!!!
"YIKES!!"
At THAT PRICE I could buy an A3!!!
OR I could buy a new gooseneck trailer, take a week off from work, drive BOTH WAYS, & pick it up myself, and STILL BE AHEAD of the game!
OH, almost forgot...
I believe that an M35 winch will work, but the frame mounts & drive shafts are different.
But you already have the PTO, so you are one step up on most guys.

Welcome to the club of Jimmy Deuce owners!
The old dueces are great!
They are built REALLY SOLID, and have a small but strong following here on SS.
Take a look at the size of the rear spring pack and compare it to the spring pack on a M35 Deuce & you'll soon see what I mean...
OH YEAH!
My Ex-Wife was more than happy to point out that "I have a proiblem" years ago! :cookoo:
(That's why I'm now single!)
I'm also now enrolled in a "12 Truck Recovery Program"! :jumpin:
I figured this maint body deuce was a LONG SHOT, but IF you "left-coasters" had decided to pass...
I've never had to fix one of these...
Suggest you search the forum OR start a new thread to get responses for this Q. (It will get missed buried in this thread.)
Probably just an old seal who's time was up!
They ALL fail eventually, but if I were you I'd just fix the one, inspect & repack the bearings while you are in there, and leave the others alone for now.
Hard to predict when they'll leak.
Be sure to check that the axle vent isn't plugged...
I'm considering buying a rare old Deuce located in Redding, California.
Need to have it shipped to Statesboro, Georgia.
Dates are flexible.
Truck runs, drives, stops.
(brakes are weak, tires are worn)
Drive on & off of trailer.
Need a decent price on shipping to make this purchase...
