Should bring some more people into the hobby which has to be good. The lack of vehicles smaller than 2 1/2 and 5 tons is an obstacle to many of us due to local restrictions, etc. Will be fun to stand back and watch the prices. Overall, great news! Bob

Sounds like you were pretty well prepared. Should carry socket for axle nut, I think 1 1/4 inch and cotter pins incase you need to adjust bearing. Only had one too tight in 5 trailers. I used extra hoisting shackles to lengthen safety chains. In a pinch you can take the ones off the...
I restored a 1987 998 that had been in a warehouse for several years. Went past the 10,000.00 mark fairly quickly with paint, tires. top. floor mats, gages, seats airlift bumper, grill guard, etc. You will not be doing much of the restoration. Has been pretty reliable. What is the mileage on...
Just a tip. I routinely chase the threads on weldnuts and rivnuts. There is usually rust, paint, etc in the threads. You have to be careful with rivnuts as they don't take much torque before they will begin turning! Just be sure you have the correct tap or thread chaser. I agree with cucvrus...
What is wrong with original battery locations? Is a battery tray missing? Some have mounted 2 civilian batteries in one tray to have more room under hood. I've had enough batteries leak acid that I do not want them in passenger compartment if possible. Exception is HMMWV where they are well...
Saw these mentioned but not where you get them. Seems like a good repair for rust holes where most of the rocker is in good shape. Don't weld anymore. Want to do more than just bondo the rust like the previous owner. Advertised as rust free! I knew better but hope springs eternal...
Car show story: Entered restored M998 HMMWV and M1101 trailer. Got no mention. Learned later that older was better, not rare, condition, etc. San Antonio is military town and military HMMWVs are often seen. Probably would not win with LMTV!
Asking for opinions. My first M1009. Dash is black, replaced by previous owner. Door panels faded burgundy, as are seats. Going to redo doors. Window seals are shot, etc. Thinking about spraying door panels black to match the dash. Have Jatonka OD seat covers so their color is not an issue...
Got the exact fit gasket at O'Reillys in Castle Hills (San Antonio) Told them 10 bolt 1984 K5 Blazer. Used RTV on installation. No leaks. Hope to see you at next SA meet. Bob
Be careful masking original decals with blue 3M painters tape. I ruined my jack decal and one door decal when I pulled the tape off! Was told later to apply grease to decals before painting. Haven't tried that yet. Still looking for replacement decals.
Agree that bluing is not a good choice because of rust. The U. S. military went to Parkerizing at the end of WWI. I've seen the finish you have on quick release pins, etc. I assumed it was anodizing . Paint over Parkerizing is durable and used on many foreign made weapons: FNFAL, later...
Today I replaced 30 year old front seat belts M1009 as shown in hoplite666 post above.I replaced the Torx head fasteners with hex head. Not a fan real tight, old Torx fasteners. Have broken one bit so far. Could not believe all the dirt that was in retractor assembly. Thank you to...
Look at T M9-2320-280-20-1 page 2-56 and try following the flow chart Read thru page 2-66. You might print these pages and take to mechanic and they might be more willing to help you. I always do this. Good luck,Bob
