    I found a V8 Deuse

The heads are a dead giveaway on a Chrysler industrial engine versus a regular Mopar engine. The front ends of the heads connect to the water pump housing and the spark plugs are located above the exhaust manifold (like a small block Mopar engine). The big block industrial engines have the...

Prepping the M814 for a long trip

Not a problem. Just be careful how you refer to the weight of your truck when asking about permits. What you want to use is the trucks weight rating (GVWR), not the actual weight, and make sure they know it is a tandem axle truck. Also make sure you tell them that you are not for hire and that...

Prepping the M814 for a long trip

Sorry, not maintenence related but something you might want to check on none the less. Since you will be driving out of state you might want to check on trip permits, both registration and fuel (IRP and IFTA). Even though you are not for hire this is a gray area. The first time I left Virginia...

Florida - CDL - Your 5 Ton - And You

In regards to the M818 with an M105 if you go by what the Florida DMV web site says I don't think that is correct. Since the M818 is a tractor and not meant to haul cargo on it directly according to the DMV web site it needs at least a Class B license. With a Class B you can not tow a trailer...

Florida - CDL - Your 5 Ton - And You

That is corect, Florida only has two types; regular license or commercial. They don't have a non-commercial class A or B. As far as the CDL exemptions I ran across that quote several years ago too. What doesn't make sense to me is that they are saying you can drive any size truck regardless of...

    Richmond Battery drop off

Where do the batteries need to go? I will be in the area for a couple days and might be able to act as middle man? I will pm you my cell phone number in a minute. Ruppster currently in Franklin on the way to Ft. Eustis to visit my wife's youngest sister who just got out of boot camp

    Tire stuck

I had this happen on a rear tire on my M1009. I did not have a large hammer. Soaking with PB Blast didn't help much either. So I put the lugnuts back on but left them loose by about 5 turns and drove the truck around the block while hitting the brakes several times. Took a few tries but it let...

    New Guy From Florida

Welcome aboard. I don't have any military trucks at the moment (had to sell my collection when we left Alaska last year) but I do have some other semi trucks I play with. I'm not too far from you. If you get a truck and need help working on it let me know. On another note are you going to the...

fort elgin fl need hlp remote inspection please

Sorry, I'm a little too far south otherwise I would check it out for you. It's about a 900 mile round trip from where I am and I don't think you would want to pay that fuel bill. :D Ruppster

    Spring Options

I guess the big question is what do you plan on doing with it? Is the truck going to be used only on the road and you want as soft a ride as possible? Or will it be used off road a lot and you want as much flex as possible? As far as using springs off a commercial type truck the trick is...

    M920 Drop side Deuce bed.

Looks great! If you want to sell the tag axle I would be interested in buying it. Ruppster

    Which tag in FL?

http://www.hillstax.org/motor/forms/83140.pdf On another note doesn't Florida offer a special low price tag for ex-military trucks that does away with having to pay extra for large heavy trucks? That's assuming you are asking about a military vehicle since this is a military vehicle site...

    Virginia Title

In regards to a CDL a deuce and a half is under the 26,001 pound GVWR cut off so a CDL would not be an issue either way. A little over 3 years ago I looked in to Virginia's overall CDL requirements and was told as long as you are not for profit and hauling your own stuff you do not need one no...

    WA / OR non-CDL guys

The problem is is that scale officials don't accept ignorance as an answer. :) I don't know how WA does it so you really should check with someone out your way. Talk with the commercial law enforcement people. Normally when you register a heavy truck the weight listed on the registration (not...

    WA / OR non-CDL guys

It's on the data plate on the dash. It should show two weight levels, one set for off road and the other for on highway. The scale officials will go by the higher level for highway. Ruppster

    Epic Alternator Failure

Well, as some will point out the search feature is your friend. :) The charging system on CUCV's is a common subject on this forum. Just keep in mind a CUCV has two seperate 12 volt charging systems to make 24 volts. Since each alternator is only 12 volts they have one key feature called an...

The truck's in Virginia. As far as when that is open. Sometime in the next 3 to 5 weeks. Ruppster

Anyone in central Florida have a trailer to haul a truck on I could borrow?

It was a single axle semi tractor that was converted to a dump truck. But the dump has been removed so now it is just a short wheel base cab and chassis about the length of a regular pickup. Weighs around 10,000 to 11,000 pounds. Need about an 8 foot wide trailer. Thanks, Ruppster

    GM blue

What's wrong with blue? The Air Force had Strata Blue 6x6's. :-P Anyhow, I like it. Just needs to be a little darker. Ruppster an ex-Air Force troop that wants to paint an M35 in Strata Blue
