new guy in town with a few questions

http://www.steelsoldiers.com/upcoming-events/50055-steel-soldiers-florida-get-together-june-4th-6th.html Added: You don't need to have a military vehicle to attend. Right now the only truck I have is a civilian International F4370 semi tractor (wouldn't mind trading it for a 6X6 though) and...

new guy in town with a few questions

First off welcome to SS. Nice to see another member in Florida. There's a Florida meet coming up in 5 weks. Hope you can make it. As far as the Unimog's engine I don't have a clue. :-D But with the registration and tags you will not get the license plate that is on it right now as it belongs...

    5 gallons of Kerosene okay??

Yes, as in a possible DOT issue. Dyed fuel means non-taxed and can lead to some heavy fines if they dip a test strip in your tank and find it. Odds of that happening are very slim but it's up to you if you feel the risk is worth it to save a few bucks. Ruppster

new member here from florida got some ???

I didn't know about the permanent versus annual antique tags either till I got looking in to tags for my non-military semi truck. Because it is over 5,000 pounds I found out the hard way that I was not allowed to get the cheaper permanent plates and was stuck with paying the same rate as a...

Bobbing an M35 in miniature (1/35th scale model)

Thanks. Maybe in 20 years I will have acquired enough skills (and patience) to be close to your level of work. Placed another order with spruebrothers.com this morning. Ordered the Hobby Boss V100 so I can steal the rims out of it for this build, along with a set of LionRoar M1078...

new member here from florida got some ???

The cheap plates are "permanent" antique tags as there is never a renewal fee and they do have limitations. You can still get antique tags that will allow you to use the truck as you want but they are renewed each year. The problem is due to the weight of the truck you will have to pay a much...

new to deuce question about loading it

Do you have USAA insurance? The reason I ask is they give a great discount on Hertz car rentals. I have used Hertz for several long distance pick ups. Unlimited mileage and usually no fee to drop off at another location. If you go this route when you reserve online try different locations to see...

Steel Soldiers Florida Get Together - June 4th-6th!

I'll take one in 4X. :D As far as the get together I don't have a military vehicle at the moment (just a 1974 International F4370 TranStar semi tractor) and can't stay the whole weekend but would like to come out Saturday afternoon to meet everyone. Do I need to register for the event or just...

Converting a deuce to 4 wheel drive without bobbing it?

I've been toying with the idea of doing the same thing myself. Idea #1 is to use 5 ton axles. This way the truck will still have about the same overal load rating as a standard deuce and a half. Plus you get a little more top speed due to the different gear ratio. Idea #2 was to use a 2 speed...

Bobbing an M35 in miniature (1/35th scale model)

Two years later it's time for an update. Last year we had to move again and now that things have settled down I now have time to get out some kits. I went back to work on the bobbed M35. Due to using a rear axle from the M35 tandem setup as a single axle with different springs I had to come up...

    V-100 (XM706E1) "Feelin' Groovy"

Nice work, Jim. I bought the V-150 version with the 90mm gun. Lots of nice details on them. Not sure if the axles are correct though as they have a large ring around the differentials that doesn't look right. And you have a great web site too. Lots of excellent work. Love the pictures of the...

    Some of my collection

Excellent work, Charles! Looking through your work has lit a fire under my backside and I'm finally getting back to projects I started over a year ago. My work is far from the level of detail you do though (Plastic Models shows some of my crude work). And thank you for the links to the LAV and...

    XM818 vs M818

The difference is in what the tag is showing. The total weight rating in the XM818 tag is indicating the GVWR while the M818 tag is referencing GCWR. The M818 tag includes a weight category that is not included in the XM818 tag called "Gro. Tlr. Wt."(gross trailer weight). The XM818 tag does not...

    M35 Fire truck WOT 2000 rpm 44 mph ... what's up?

I don't know what the exact redline is for a multi-fuel engine but from what I remember it is higher then 2,000 rpm. Will the engine do more then 2,000 rpm if you rev it in neutral? If not I would take a look at the governor adjustment. If your engine is reaching the proper redline could you...

    Land Train???

Just saw that auction posted over on the ATHS forums. That is a cool setup but would hate to see how much room it would need to make a turn. :) Don't know if it will be easy to get it running or not as it sounds like it only has the control unit and three trailers, no power units. I...

    I found a V8 Deuse

Sorry, I didn't word one of my sentences too well. Thanks for catching that error. And you are correct that Chrysler industrial engines came in a wide range of sizes. I was focusing on the big block based engines that were used in the heavy duty trucks but wasn't too clear on that. Dodge did use...
