Don't forget to check all the fluids before trying to start it.

Question about M1009 relay repeat activation

Check this out: CUCV Glow Plug System Video - YouTube AntennaClimber did a great job on that video. And my 2cents, if your belts are squealing, they are either worn out or too loose. The TM calls for 67 lbs. of tension on the belts after break in stretch. Do not rely on your calibrated thumb...

    Electric Fuel pump problems!

Any leak in the cooling system that isn't repaired can affect the pressure test of the cooling system. But, a pressure test can indicate other possible areas of leakage. I recommend repairing both leaks ASAP. Use a wire brush to clean the thermostat neck, especially where the upper rad hose...

    Alt/ Power Steering belts.

Gates Krikit I v-belt tension gauge #91107. About $10 at RockAuto. Cheap enough to keep one in the glove box of each vehicle you own. They also make one for ribbed v-belts. The Krikit II #91132 about $13. The manual calls for 67 lbs. of tension on the belts after break in. I checked mine...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

Just finished replacing all the heater and radiator hoses on my M1009, after flushing the cooling system. Replaced the thermostat and gasket. Installed the Kat's engine block heater #11612. Installed really easy.

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

Began flushing the cooling system on my M1009 after finishing work for the day. Going to replace all the hoses and clamps. Adding a Kat's engine block heater I got from NAPA. Seems like they are no longer carrying the Balkamp line. Part # is 11612.

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

Installed Monroe Gas Magnums on all four corners of both M1009 and M1008. No test drive yet (started to rain), so I will report on ride quality later. Both trucks had original shocks and steering dampers. Shot does not begin to describe how bad the originals were.

I think my Cross Member got longer!

Pretty much normal. 1/4" is typical based on my own experience. Consider that the crossmember is providing some dimensional stability to the frame at it's mid section while bolted in. When removed, the weight the frame is carrying will cause it (the frame) to warp in where it is no longer...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

This is all recent: Cleaned all the under hood electrical contacts on my M1008 and M1009. Straightened the TC cross member (forklift damage) on M1008. Used a hydraulic shop press (12 ton) and a "great persuader" (8 lb. sledge with member laid across two wood rounds and blows cushioned by a...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

Just replaced the brake lines in my 1985 M1008 with stainless pre-bent ones from Inline Tube. High quality product. Shipped fast. Some finnagling required on the master cylinder lines, but not too much effort to get them to clear the brake boost hoses. They look nicer then the originals...
