What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

Heater Blower Motor Replacement Replaced the blower motor on my M1008A1. The old one worked, but recently the heater fuse melted. I decided to replace the motor to be safe. Used NAPA 655-1076. Unfortunately made in China, but looks to be a decent quality for the approx. $20 it cost. Plus...

Experiences with CUCV Electric Agreed. Any issues I've had were fixed ASAP. These are just my thoughts regarding the service John provides. Not intended to criticize anyone's perspective, just sharing mine for whatever it's worth: I can't begin to imagine the amount of time I would have...

Need help! My M1009 will only take 2 gallons of diesel.

Are you sure it was diesel and not condensation? How did you determine it was diesel out of your exhaust?

Need help! My M1009 will only take 2 gallons of diesel.

Sounds like one of two things may be at issue, especially since you can get more in if you go slowly. 1) It might be that your vent tube may be plugged up. There is a vent tube that runs alongside the larger fill tube towards the rear of the truck. If you look carefully inside the filler...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

Roadtest Update - Rebuilt Injection Pump and Injectors Road test complete. As smooth as a 6.2 can be. Timing is set dead on to the mark and she definitely sounds more like a real diesel than before. She isn't going to set any land speed records, but she now has plenty of reserve power...

    ac60g ?

+1 on Doghead and Warthog's comments. In addition, the 60G's are self-regulating. This should mean a lower chance of swollen plugs and a longer life to them. I replaced the original 25+ year old AC's in my M1008A1 with 60G's. Starts almost instantly in the cold after "wait" time.

    Starter Engagement

Starter rebuild or replace If you are going to replace the "Bendix" you might as well get the starter rebuilt. It sounds like the starter solenoid or "Bendix" is not engaging properly. As they say in medicine, it is likely that there are "multiple co-morbid disorders" in your starter. If you...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

Rebuilt Injection Pump and Injectors So, I was driving my M1008A1 to my sons robotics tournament about two weeks ago when, as I was climbing a good hill on the interstate she started to lose power, sputter a little, and dump some bluish smoke. I knew I needed a new IP as there had been a...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

Possible Glow Plug Failure If your wait light seems to be taking a lot longer, consider that the GP controller card will vary the wait time based on the load as well as the engine temperature. IIRC, this was to compensate for GP failure, increasing the time as more GP's fail based on current...

factory tach install will it work?

Alternator 'R' and 'W' terminal tachometer feed This is correct. Inet search for 'R' and 'W' alternator terminals. They are tied in to a single pole of the rectifier bridge and produce approximately 7 volts AC unregulated output. There are multiple uses for these terminals including the...

Please keep us posted. I am contemplating the same set of questions, and have also narrowed it down to 700R4/4L60 or a GV. Very interested to see how this goes for you and what the driving experience becomes. Please consider posting a video of driving the truck before and after the install...

Engine Block Heater NAPA no longer seems to be carrying the Balkamp engine block heater. They are carrying the KATZ's line now, manufactured for Balkamp. I picked up part #11612 for both of my trucks, which is what KAT's listing calls for in the 6.2/6.5 engines. Check their listing at...

    M1009 Steering

Agreed on the frame. A noted weak spot on these trucks, especially if the truck has been heavily used. What I do to find the issue in steering is to climb under the front of the truck while an assistant moves the steering wheel back and forth. I do NOT do this with the truck running. Check...
