May I suggest that you check the voltage potential between that diamond shaped connector and ground to validate that there is a 12 volt potential?
If we are talking about the same connector, it is supposed to feed 12 volts to a considerable number of items. Check the image in this post...
Well, it just goes to show that I should not post so late in the day :-P. Since I started this discussion, let me attempt to re-state what I really meant to say.
With the resistor bypassed, the load the front battery needs to handle is significantly increased. Prior to the bypass, both...
Diagnosing Idle Issues
Please consider the -20 TM for diagnosing your issues (there may be more than one). You may want to look at page 2-41 number 20 to start.
Some simple considerations. Idle speed is determined by a set screw on the side of the injection pump. As long as your pumps...
Apologies, but I can't answer this question definitively. I have no intention of burning WMO in my rigs, unless that is all that becomes available. As such, I have not researched this.
But, I'm not sure why you couldn't.
Cold Weather Motor Oil Recommendation
Apologies for diverting off of the OP's original question, but I believe this is cogent to his apparent desire to find ways to improve cold weather operation of his vehicle. This is almost pure opinion, so please take it for what it's worth, especially...
I also recommend bypassing the resistor. Although it does place an increased load on the front battery relative to the rear. The front will now be handling all of the 12 volt loads, while the rear will just be used for starting.
Caution advised ...
If I'm not mistaken, the resistor is designed to be in the path of the airflow just after the blower. This is to keep it sufficiently cool to keep it from burning up. Also, the resistor wires are not insulated, so extreme care to prevent a short to ground would be...
Heater Core Question
Thanks for the great post and the additional time to research this issue.
I need to replace the radiator in my M1008A1 and the water pump to boot. Small leak in the radiator and there is weepage out of the weep hole in the pump.
Over the summer I replaced all the hoses...
Also, be careful with that socket. There is a very short crimp on both wire ends that is easily pulled out. Seems to have happened to a number of members.
Headlight Circuit Recommendation
Sounds like you are on the right track.
I believe another area to watch for is the headlight circuit. These trucks were wired "old school" where the current feeding the lights ran through the switch on the dash. I recommend installing one of those "upgrade"...
Heater Circuit Testing/Diagnostic
If you are checking the fuse using the "test ports" open on the back of the case of the fuse, you are only validating that you have a "good enough" connection between the hot side of the fuse box (IIRC, the passenger side connector in the fuse block) and the...
If the Gen1 light is on when you turn on the blower motor switch, based on my limited knowledge, your switch is working. IIRC, this could be a sign that your fuse is not working. Does the same behavior occur when the truck is not running but in the on position? Does the Gen1 light come on...
