    Engine Intake Pre-Heater Questions

I need to add that the pre-heater setup looks just like the MF, just placed in different positions. The pump is on the left front of the engine, coil on left mid rear and the valves about in the center on the left, all right up in your face to work on. nozzle and plug are in the 90 degree turn...

Anyone got pics of RADIAL 14.00-20 duals on a 5-ton?

Without a lot of work, the bridge truck wheels won't fit the wreckers, as the axles are too short and the inside wheels will hit the springs.

I am fairly good at getting things done, but terrible at getting it on film.

    Engine Intake Pre-Heater Questions

After getting the tractor home, looked into the pre-heater and why it did not fire. Have great spark @ plug as installed (looked through nozzle port). Have real good fuel flow when hose is removed from nozzle and solenoid valve is not stuck. Have no spray out of nozzle even if the pressure...

    Towed Tractor Home

On Saturday, a good friend "volunteered" his time and the use of his Ford Louie tractor w/ fifth wheel tow bar/hoist to bring our Mack powered tractor home from the office. After a short time rigging up a hitch to the rear of the tractor, and removing the front hubs, we started off @ 30-35 mph...

    5 Ton wheels

The bridge truck wheels will not fit standard 5 tons without a lot of work/extra parts. The axles are wider on the bridge trucks (confirmed this myself), spaced further apart on the tandems and they also have added spacers on both the front and rear. I guess you could use them on the rear as...

    t case conversion

If you install a Mack, the trans also will have to be replaced or you will only go about 40-44 mph top speed. Also, will have to notch frame on left side of engine to clear air compressor and fuel pump. Gasser not that bad, just need to make sure that everything is right up to snuff! Plus...

    R6602 Troubles

I would really like to see some good photos of the heads off the truck, as we have never been into our motor deeper than the valve cover removal for adjustment. I believe that the heads have real deep chambers with the valves well shrouded from the pistons. Can the pistons even hit the valves...

Anyone got pics of RADIAL 14.00-20 duals on a 5-ton?

Based on how our truck looked with the duals, I think that the 1400x20 radials would look and work fine. I even think that the 1600x20s would fit. Looking at our M812 again, I'm sure it would work. At the truck show I went to on the 19th, I met and talked to an MV owner with a 5 ton dump that...

    Best guess milage for gasser

I always thought that a port fuel injection system on the 6602 would be a great step up, as the '40s tech for the old carb system leaves a lot of room for improvement. Ford's 300 straight six after it got injection was an unbeatable motor, we had a company truck that went over 200,000 on the...

    Best guess milage for gasser

A gas engine does not care how it gets its fuel mixture, as long as it is in the right proportion. We use a 500 cfm Carter/Eb on a hypo slant six which turns 6000 rpm and it runs great. Be aware that a 6602 will draw between 400-475 cfm max at 2800 rpm so a 600 carb may never or rarely open...

    Best guess milage for gasser

We fabed a replacement filter using a spin-on from WIX with the water drain in the bottom. Was able to connect to the same fittings and lines with no changes. Just drain fuel every so often and the filter element should go a long time. The original was all rusty and gaskets NG.

    Brake Lights On too long

The brake switch is on the air side of the system (stock), and we have not noticed any dragging of the shoes or heating of the drums from a sticky MC. Air tanks are drained every day, and water has not been a problem.

    Best guess milage for gasser

We tried the Holley for a very short period after I got the truck home, and we were not happy with the performance, especially the tendency to be over rich after warm-up. The Zeniths are on E-bay sometimes, and Saturn sells them for a fair price. Regardless of the carb make, check for leaks...

    Flex Hose radiator hoses

If you know the counter parts guys at your local auto/truck parts dealer (NAPA, etc.), make a rough wire pattern of the hose you need, with the nozzle size and ask if they will let you go out back and look over the hose rack. I have done this a number of times and been able to fit/cutup an...

    Brake Lights On too long

Which air vent? The master cylinder is vented through some sort of vent system (to the air cleaner I think). Is the air booster vented the same way? Brakes do not hang up or drag at all. There was a post about the glad hands needing venting or else something happens. This is why I noted...

    Brake Lights On too long

My son noticed that the brake lights on the water truck seem to stay on for an extended period after the pedal is released. I confirmed this in the yard with a mirror on the step ladder, and removed the breather on the top of the switch and added a shot of air tool oil to the switch. Also...

    Best guess milage for gasser

Drove the water truck to a truck show in Barrington (about 50 miles one way) on Sunday, and accounting for the level of the tank when I started and the amount of fuel bought ($117 @ $2.66/gal) I think that the mileage is between 3 to 4 miles per gallon or between $0.70 and $0.90 per mile just...

    REB Kit

Actually, if you want, the 5 tons can be "shifted" into neutral for the front drive by blocking air flow to the shifter and allowing the air cylinder to purge (zero pressure). The -10 manual describes how to do this for towing in reverse. We also tried this out by moving the truck in sand...
