    Gasser lifter noise

Is the original gas pump hooked up and working? This too runs off the cam and may be another source of the sound. On our truck, I have found that with everything properly adjusted and tight, the actual engine noises are quite low (at idle), except for the leaky middle exhaust manifold. Noise...

    Gasser lifter noise

On our truck, the air governor makes a sound like a ticking lifter that has a similar cyclic noise. Try disconnecting the air compressor belt or something like that and run the engine up to temperature. You could also leave a valve open somewhere in the air system to load the compressor full...

    torque rod

Note that the bridge trucks (M139/328) have a longer (wider) tandem spacing than the rest of the series. This is done with longer torque rods and springs. Some of the parts suppliers have just the rubber insert available, which you would have to press into the rod.

    Solargizer Placement

See the picture in the 5 ton forum under "Stencils, solar charger and gas tank mounts" last posted 4-3-07. Used a flat piece of alum with an alum angle clamped to the post holding the blinky light.

    Bridge Truck boom power

The TM talks about hooking a 2nd truck to the front of the loading/unloading truck to hold the front on the ground during operations! So I would guess that the boom is strong enough to hoist a load of dirt in a body. How do you plan to handle the height and width issues?

    Gasser lifter noise

Per the photos/pictures in Memphis' book and the TM, the lifters are like a B & S lawn mower engine, smaller stem and large base that rides on the cam. These have to rotate in order to distribute the wear over the entire face of the lifter, just like an older (60s through 80s V8). If one of...

    Bridge Truck boom power

By the way, the truck was running in these photos (at idle) and had only just been started. I think the speedo is original, and only shows 5800 miles or so.

    Bridge Truck boom power

Not trying to hy-jack this post, but I thought I would put up some pictures of our truck so others would know what we were talking about. The two biggest problems with the M812 is the width (over 11 feet) and how high the cargo/bed would be if you use the boom as it sits.

    Bridge Truck boom power

There is a TM in the Tech Manuals for the M812 truck and bridge system that gives all the specs on the parts/pieces. I read it, but did not download. From memory, I think the winch is at least 10,000 pounds.

50 year old M52 getting it ready to drive home

Looks like your muffler is the spark arrester type, as it has a plugged hole in the bottom. How loud is this truck? Is the exhaust manifold OK? Interested, as our h2o truck has a cracked center section and I can't tell how loud it really is due to the slight leak. I would check on the fuel...

    Right Side Can Holder Photos

I've got no idea how to convert this 18"x24" print into a PDF. The parts are only nuts, bolts, two sets of the quick release screws like the dash panel uses and the holder with a hinge. One of you guys PM'ed me, and I told him that I paid $30+ for the unit in the box from a guy from...

Stencils, solar charger & gas tank mounts

Cranetruck: Your stencils look way better (sharper) than ours, I guess the glue trick is the way to go.

    Bridge truck wheels and spacers

Still looking for any help with dimensions of the "standard" wheels for the 5 ton series trucks. Would like to get the actual wheel width (not the across the rim dimension, which will be wider) and the back spacing like my photo above. Thanks

    Right Side Can Holder Photos

ROKON made some diesel units for the Army of Jordan in the 90's. I think they used a Yanmar high rpm 5 hp engine, but without asking my son I don't remember. At 5 or so hp, they must have been real slow, as the Kohler gas motors with 7-8 hp go about 30-32 mph, and the high hp Power Bee engines...

    Right Side Can Holder Photos

The ROKON is my son's, #4 of the current batch. Has had up to 6 at one time. Fills the garage up with all his stuff!! Silver one in photo is a kind of a hybrid, old frame w/ transmission, old style steering head and Power Bee engine with a Comet clutch/torque converter on it. Things are sort...

Photos of right side can holder. The blueprint does reference a de-con unit use.

Stencils, solar charger & gas tank mounts

The right side gas can holder is a factory piece. Just picked up the kit 3-11-07 at the Lowell show. Even got the blue print copy for the installation. Shows it installed on either a M35 or a 5 Ton right side step. Paperwork references some type of de-con unit use. Can holder looks to be...

Water delivery system for H2O Truck

The paint is Aervoe #997 (24087) mixed 4:1:0.5 with enamel thinner and a hardener. Prep work was the most important. My son sanded for two solid weeks and applied a urethane heavy primer, then the paint shop sealed the entire truck before spraying about 8 gallons on. A few runs that you can't...

Water delivery system for H2O Truck

With a 4,000 gallon tank of water, the thing weighs in at appox. 55-58,000 pounds (my guess). This is way over the rating on these old tires. Water alone weighs 32,500-34,000 lbs. Tire rating is about 6,200 lbs x 6 each. With the pump output at between 250-375 gpm, the tank only lasts 12-20...
