We have never been real happy with how the water truck goes on the road. It never got up and went, like others have described on the site. Since it was in the high 30s and 40s on Saturday, I made a jumper for the spark plug and decided to check the timing. The original distributor was broken...
Why does the site time out for my pass word if I take too long (5 minutes or so) to write a responce to a Topic? Can I change this? Real problem if you get almost through a subject and go to post and you have the whole thing disappear.
Thanks
Adelman's in Ohio has an ad in the back of Rock & Dirt each issue. They show MT654 takeouts for $900, and others from $650 to $2,750. Not sure which auto was used in the 900 series. Many larger construction firms with large truck fleets in our area are switching to autos due to the lack of...
Company I used to work for had one in a big DynaPac roller and the son had a Cat 225 hoe with one. Very smokey on startup due to the use of two ring pistons (in the case of the roller). Only 150+hp in the roller and I think 200 or so hp in the 225. Very compact engine without the turbo. NO...
I have just started to use the Lucas oil additive in my 5.9 R/T Dakota pickup, our D6M dozer and now in the water truck. With 90,000 miles on the R/T, was using 1 1/2 quarts of oil between oil changes at 4,000 mile intervals. Now using less than a quart. D6M was using a gallon every two days...
Chrysler slant 6 engines have an aftermarket alum. intake by Offy that uses two standard 1V stock type carbs in a layout like you are suggesting. Some guys machine these out and use two Weber 2V's with good luck. The problem with the R6602 is the port layout is not evenly spaced like a slant 6...
Don't hold me to this but I think the bolt is 5/8". Go to WIX filters and search for #24067, which is their replacement base to convert to a spin-on filter (51970) instead of the canister type #51954. It uses a 5/8" bolt with different lengths depending on the engine model.
Just like the deuce, with the little cork wedge. I would use RTV instead. Be warned, the hubs with the brake drums are real heavy, took two of us to remove and install when we flipped the hubs. Be careful of the inner seal when you remount the hub, can drag on the axle spindle threads. Ours...
Different rear suspension, no springs on the wreckers. Not sure about wheelbase, tractors and dumps the same. Maybe the short cargos and wreckers are the same? The long cargos, the tractor/wreckers and the bridge trucks are all the extra long wheelbase and I'm not sure but they all may be...
Not sure about the kits for the Zenith, but did get a Holley (GI issue) kit from them to rebuild the first Holley carb. Will have to check on the availabliity of the Zenith kits again.
Beastmaster, did you have a gasser wrecker in southern Mass?
Thanks
I would guess that the Holley/Zenith carbs for these engines would be about 400 cfm based on the 602 cid and 2800-3000 rpm of the engine. The smallest 4V Holley carb that is easy to get is 390 cfm, used on 6 cylinders and small V8's. We used a 500 cfm AFB Carter/Ed on a 232 cid slant six that...
In NH we don't need a title for anything on 2 axles older than 15 years, or for 3 axle vehicles less than 18,000# older than the stated 15 years. The VIN has to be verified by an inspection station, a licensed auto dealer or a law enforcement officer (has to physically look at the tags) and you...
Just a couple of suggestions: 1) Spray some light oil into the intake of the compressor, like air tool oil. Won't hurt anything and if it pumps the oil will drop out in the air tanks and drain out with the water. Maybe the valves are stuck. 2) Is the head gasket blown? On the 5 ton gasser...
I agree, the 5 ton gasser is real heavy (2100#) & long (almost 4 feet) and at max a 3,000 rpm engine. We have a 1984 F700 Louisville style Ford 6 wheel flat bed with a 370 4V that does an easy 65 mph in high 5th gear @ 4,000 rpm on 1100x20 tires (don't know the rear ratio). The 370 is a small...
Anyone know where to get carb kits for the replacement Zenith carbs issued during the '80s for the gasser 5 tons? Have one on the water truck, works great, and have a spare, but would like to have at least one spare parts/gasket kit on the shelf just in case. Had to steal the gov. diaphragm...
If this is the same truck you described in a previous post as owned by your neighbor, you did great, from the pictures I can see. If he was going to part this truck out, we are in the wrong part of the country, as this truck would command top dollar up here in rust and salt land!
We have an M812A1, and the hydraulic system is powered off the same PTO gear box as the front winch (just like in the picture above). I also want to install a crane, and plan to use the pump setup on the truck as it was built for the power source. In the tech manual section is a manual for the...
Our water truck had issues with the sprag (see old posts) that we think have been cleared up by flushing (twice) and fixing all the little leaks around and on the valves and lines leading to the air shift cylinder. If this little cylinder is not working correctly, the sprag will not shift right...
Having been in the construction industry for over 30 years, I have seen a lot of diesel engines with very high hours on them, and the biggest factor in long life is maintenance. In the late '70s we bought 2 new French built 100,000 pound excavators with aircooled engines that went over 12,500...
Are the #31P Interstate batteries the same physical size and layout as the 6TL's? I was quoted by the local NAPA store $93 for the 31P's and $165 for the 6TL's. When you need 4, it makes a big difference!
