All by yourself?? Man, that's gotta hurt when you lay under a big 10 speed and wiggle it back from the engine till it falls on your chest... I think the issue with most of us is that we lack the HD equipment that makes a tranny job on a big truck easier, hence the desire to not have to pull...
Just to make you feel a little better about what you're doing, my rough calculations show deuce with ~#150 tire/wheel combo (?) has about 11% of it's weight as unsprung tire. (Unspring total includes axles+half springs+half driveshafts also...)
My Jeep, with 33's, has about 8% of it's weight...
Thanks for the info Bob!! Here's a few pics of using the dozer to break down the beads. This wheel took the longest by far... Had a civi tire rusted on it pretty good... My friend with the dozer said "The problem with heavy equipment is that once you get one thing, you find out you need...
That does look nice!! I just spend several hours this weekend dismounting some REALLY old 11.00 NTCC's from 135 wheels that I'm using to single out my deuce... We used a bulldozer blade to break the bead, with only eventual success, and a lot of muscle to reposition the tire to work around...
I'm about to single out my deuce with 11.00 NTD's because I can't find ANY radials for a decent price... for all I use it (Not much...) they'll probably be fine. I am hoping to get a little better perf and bump the top speed up a bit for highway ease. I don't carry anything, and I have the...
Well, I just came home from a vacation in Colorado and Utah... Check out what we found in Moab, UT... I'm pretty sure this isn't currently being used, but it is set up to haul mountain bikers out of town so they can ride nasty trails... Interesting to say the least...

Ok, so as I see it there are a couple of kinds of runaway, simplest being that the engine just won't kill with the fuel shutoff, and idles forever, so you put it in 2nd or 3rd or 4th and let the clutch out gently and it snubs. EZ.
More dangerous runaway is IP stuck at high throttle on...
Just like in your F150, you'll have to air down. And that's a LOT of tires to air down... (and up!!) Read the dash info, it tells you what to air down to for sand/mud/snow. I believe the sand pressure is 15psi. (I run the rears lower because there's more of them...) That's low enough...
I should really be working, but couldn't help but to reply to this one... Consider that when the army rated the deuce to tow 10k, and the CUCV trucks to tow much less than the civy versions, it likely had much to do with the intended driver than the hitch... An 18 year old kid in a truck...
Hmm. Haven't seen anything like that rolling around Detriot lately... Saw lots of trucks from the old program, based off the last gen Silverado. It was termed "Enhanced Mobility Package". You'll find some manuals if you do a web search, but not much else.
On the EMP trucks, the...
You're on the right track!! The first step you haven't mentioned is that you need to get out a tire guage and drop all the tires to 15PSI. Well, I usually stop at about 20 in the fronts. That'll keep it from trenching again when you do get ready to get out.
As for filler, you can use...
Yeah, it should be 7/16". A med extention and a 3/8" ratchet should do the trick if you can rotate the prop to take bolts off when they're on the bottom... Bring a long wrench in case you can't... They rust up pretty good in the northern states. You'll usually need prybar to get it out of...
Wait, you converted to 12V... and you're still running two alternators... I suppose it's possible, but they're going to fight some over which one is doing the charging... You really only need one to keep up with most CUCV loading... Either way 13.7-14.3 V is normal charging voltage, and it...
Thanks Gerhard! Now I see why nobody is doing this... The drum ID is smaller than the hub... (I can get the hub onto a lathe pretty easily, but things a big as the drums are a bit more challenging...)
Guess I'll order up some sets of old school seals and a nice tub of wheel bearing...
Oh. So the deuce seal presses on the spindle and slips against the hub instead of pressing into the hub and slipping on the spindle... That complicates things some, and explains why there isn't better info on this.
Still, it looks like there is a machined area on the spindle...
Eeek, busted stuff where stuff shouldn't be busted... It runs like that?? W/O oil pressure... Wonder what the bearings look like...
So the fenders and hinged panels aren't normally on MF deuces?? Mine has fenders that look just like that, and hinged side plates, and the tag and VIN say it's a...
Ok, I keep reading all the hub seal discussions and trouble, and it's getting close to time to flip my hubs for singles, so I'm getting ready to re-seal it all too. I had one seal start dumping last year, and found that there was no outer seal on that hub, so I just filled the diff and live...
I saw one today on some imported from china page... Didn't really think it looked like a good idea... there's a lot of leverage on that tiny bolt pattern by the time you get the ball mounted up 12" or more away from the mount flange...
You might read this thread, which has some other...
How about welding a light duty pintle on the logsplitter?? Or if the current coupler is bolted, then weld this ring to the other side of the coupler and flip it around if it fits that way, so you can reverse it at any time. ?? This is way cheaper than a combo pintle/ball adapter, and...
