Thanks for the suggestions. The temp. glue fix sounds like the right one to use. Will check the hobby/craft stores for this stuff.
I am not really trying to get a perfect look for the truck, since we do use it on the job, but my son is a paint neat freak and he hates to see the over spray...
I have never been able to get accurate dimensions for the "standard" rims used on most M54/M800 series trucks w/ duals. It is my understanding that 1400x20 tires require 10" wide wheels, which the bridge truck rims are (see picture). If "standard" rims are 9" or 9.5", 1400 tires might fit...
We have, between the three trucks, 32 1400x20 tires, 32 20x10 bridge truck wheels, 2 1400Rx20 XL tires that are usable and 2 XL's that would only be good for spares. Would really like to get 8 combat rims and 4ea 85-90% XL tires. Want to install combat rims on the front of the H2O truck and...
My brother and I are in the construction business, site work. We will be using the truck on various jobs for compaction and dust control. Already has worked out well on a "sand" job we will be finishing this spring at a local tech school. Very tough to get spec-ed compaction rates without a...
Added some stencils to the H2O truck, but not real happy with how they look. Tough to get the stencil to stay flat on the panel so the spray paint won't fog around the letters.
Picture of solar charger mounted on flasher pipe and two photos of the gas can mounts (with one German made can!)...
Finally got the last two spray heads installed on the truck this weekend. Only had the front two installed last fall to try out the system before we invested in the others. Filled the truck half full and ran up and down the street running the heads, neighbors were real impressed! Pump won't...
Since this question has come up a few times, I decided to get some pictures showing how the spacers work on the bridge truck axles (with the hubs flipped). Sunday I took one of the old tire/wheel assemblies apart since it had a slow leak anyway to show the real deep offset that the bridge truck...
What wheels are you using on the M812? Looks like the fronts are mounted opposite the rears. Did I understand you right that the front spacers were still on the truck? What about the rear? What is the height of the tires (about)?
Thanks
Anyone got pictures of a bobbed 5 ton that they have done? Have seen a lot of pictures of deuces that have been cut, but the 5 tons seem to be more scarce. thinking about cutting a spare M139 w/gasser and front winch, and adding 1600x20 tires. Would use the front springs and mounts from...
My son has used the acid cleaner that the detail shops use on alum. wheels to remove brake dust and stains. Cleans the metal right down to bare overnight. He then has coated the inside with I think the POR stuff. Done it to three or four ROKON bike tanks that were real bad. Most important...
Make sure you change out the gear oil and flush the case. If the sprag sticks in the wrong direction, it will break or tear up something bad. Mine in the M139 was sticking when shifting from forward to reverse and back, and made horrible noises. Mostly fixed by flushing and making sure that...
I too would like to know this. The 5 tons had two versions of the front spring pack, the M139 and M139D (I think) had extra leafs in the springs. I believe the M139D was the rocket launcher carrier with the lower final drive gears too.
If you put an OD trans behind an R6602 w/ 1400x20 tires and it had enough power the numbers say it would go 80+ mph!! Some ride on old bias ply tires in all wheel drive!
There was a big SAC base in NH, Pease, and a lot of the trucks on-base were blue, 4 door Dodges, M37's, M715's, and M35's. All the flight line stuff was yellow, and they didn't allow anything that had run on the roads to run out on the taxiway in the winter because of the salt. Watched them...
M139 with 4,000 gal tank took 8+ gallons reduced 4:1+ hardener. Wheels not done yet. Major paint application done with airless gun using some sort of electrical system. Wouldn't suggest you do a car this way but it sure put a lot of paint on. Used Aervoe 24087.
Last Sunday I saw one of John's oil filter adapters at the Lowell show and talked to John about the "Project". I believe (just opinion here) that he is on the right track, based on the past use of the dual WIX 1458 filters as used by Oliver/White. They were the licensed builder of this engine...
Interesting that you cut the heads on the R6602. Somewhere, I don't remember, I read that these engines were a little problematic in the area of head gasket sealing. Was there enough "meat" in the deck surface of the head to accommodate a radical cut (0.100"+) so that there was a noticeable...
I picked up a Solargizer on E-bay for the water truck and installed it in the vertical on the pipe post we fabbed for the beacon light out of the machine gun mount on the side of the right door. I left the wiring full length and mounted the little box on velcro tape inside the battery box (but...
I've bought boots now from Saturn, Memphis and Adirondack and they have all been different. The one I put on the water truck looked like an older US made one, with thicker rubber and a well attached zipper. The 1st spare from Saturn looks offshore, with thinner rubber and a less substantial...
I don't think I would run the engine above 2800-2900 rpm on a regular basis, like you said rpm is the killer of big heavy engines like these. Since the truck will be on a job without me, I have to make sure that the governor works and limits top revs to 3000 or less.
The thing now really...
