Hemit thinking about getting one need info

Safely you can run them at 55 MPH, I believe that's the limit of the tires. It will likely go faster, but why? The M985 might be preferable to a M977 if you want a higher capacity crane. Otherwise, most of them coming out are in pretty good mechanical condition, as they were rebuilt recently...

Hemit thinking about getting one need info

I've got one, a few sold of a song yesterday. I'll echo the above, they ride better heavily loaded for sure. They are complex machines, but very useful if you have a task similar to what they were originally used for.

5 ton Bobsled, Recovery assistance near Berkeley Springs WV

I can't believe that didn't roll! Best of luck getting it out. I used the front end loader on the tractor to dig us out over here, perhaps 1/2 mile or so of snow around 33" or so. Lot more snow than I've ever seen at once, the HEMTT is safe on the farm down south, otherwise I guess I would have...

Is there a screw in block heater for the 6CTA 8.3 or just the freeze plug type?

I would have to imagine there is. The smaller Cummins engines have a port for them, but everything I seem to find is the freeze plug concept.

    m939 overheated Exhaust Gas Temperatures

It maybe surprising, but it has been the case for a long time: http://www.caranddriver.com/features/everything-you-ever-wanted-to-know-about-pistons-feature http://archive.commercialmotor.com/article/11th-august-1925/12/aluminium-versus-cast-iron-for-pistons

    Yugoslavian BOV APC

This guy looks a lot like a V-100, very cool! I suppose a pressure regulator could easily be installed down stream of the compressor, set it to 100-120 PSI or so, and let it do it's thing. Could be the factory one has died. Nice looking APC!

    60K Fuel Burning Heater M813

I'm sure it could made to work, I had one of those in the back of my M109A3, it would literally cook you inside the back if you let it run. We are talking 60k BTU, or over 5 tons of heating in a very small area. It would be toasty!

    Mk48 LVS Hydraulic Specs

Looks like based on an older thread, around 10 GPM is needed at 1700 or so PSI. http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?36775-Grove-M977-Crane/page4

Trailer needed to haul a M1074 from OH to VA

I've seen them flat towed before in Iraq and Afghanistan, but with either a HEMTT wrecker or a similar PLS. I would think the M916 might be a little on the light side.

    Hemtt vs M923A2?

Gerrykan, good point as well. Without a farm use for my HEMTT, this thing would have been difficult to tag and insure in Virginia.

    Hemtt vs M923A2?

I've owned both, a couple of 5 tons, 800-series and 939-series, and currently own a HEMTT M977.I would not have purchased a HEMTT unless I had a very specific need for it, reaching difficult to access log buildings over unimproved, or at best, completely washed out "roads" and then unstacking...

Could you post up the technical bulletin, I would love to read it!

    1,680 mile HEMTT recovery

I would agree with Wade, there's no sense in draining them, in fact, I think most had nice pictures like this one (from my truck) that shows the coolant level in the radiator.

    1,680 mile HEMTT recovery

My HEMTT came out of Ft. Worth, and the temp gauge did indeed show rather high. I think there's something up with the gauges when the batteries are trashed, nothing to do with the coolant. Most HEMTT's batteries are done, the whole runs when jumps, but won't after shutting down. Once my...
