I'd like to add that the VIC-4 is very sensitive to AM signals such as CB. the VIC 1 and 4 are designed for FM sets. No data on the VIC-1 but I am glad you did get it working. AM or SSB sets?
That is right, but offroading has never been a hobby of mine. I use ATVs (previously dirt bikes before that one crash) for that kind of fun. There is Offroading and then there is offroading.
I should explain exactly what this truck is for. The M8109 truck build is a utility truck and is not...
Lessons learned -
get a quiet machine no matter what,
get an 1800 (2 cyl.) or 2400RPM (usually 3-cyl.) one.
a 3600 single cyl. will be very loud.
a single cylinder 4-stroke will lose rpm between power strokes
water cooled is best as well because it cuts down cylinder noise.
think...
Third it. I owe Gimpy big time for all his help building the M8109, but after being forced to see "that which can not be un-seen", maybe we are even!
As for the truck, once the body's gone, how about bobbing the chassis and turning it into some kind of crazy dune buggy?
Custom gears are a possibility. There's a 4.55 set IIRC but it is rare (earlier in this thread). I can give you the phone # to the guy that knows who has them. It was a parts cost of $3000 shop cost per axle for the ring and spur IIRC, unknown how much for the other (top) two required gears in...
pics as promised. Still to be cleaned up and painted but it fits for the most part.
The rear section was already in place as was the outside lower section.
The front edge of the outside section had been welded to the C-channel that supports the outside of the mounts. This will have to be...
My buddy has a commercial generator truck. It has two tanks and the truck or genset can run from either my means of two switches, which is convenient. The genset tank is some 300 gallons, the truck tank is maybe 40. The genset uses offroad diesel and its tank is on the chassis behind the cab...
so, like on the bombers of old, get some paint and draw a silhouette of a car, and then put the "no" symbol over it, the circle with the line through it. Once you have a few of those on the door, cars will avoid you more.
Drove it today again, been a while. It is absolutely amazing keeping up with traffic. I was running 60 most of the time, with a burst to 65 to pass a garbage scow.
I am exploring the big hole between 3rd and 4th. We all know it is there on an 5 speed OD transmission. I am looking for data that...
Today my friend Preston and I cut up the body of the previously sacrificed Kubota-powered lighting generator trailer and built the cover for the M8109's onboard genset. The main part of it anyway.
I didn't have time to take pictures but I will do it soon because it was not very hard to do this...
After speaking to the chief chemist at Buckley Oil Products, I was informed that the MT-1 characteristic is designed for older transmissions with "yellow metals" that were specified for GL-1 (made from mineral oil). The lubes are designed specifically to not eat away at these metals and to...
The 939 case is overdrive and is smaller than the 800 type cases. It would be a major job to swap them. and your speed would be very low, 70% of what it is now. I know this because I put a 939 case in an 800 truck and it was a big job, but redline is 70. There is a thread on this.
If I had taken the M8109 I would have posted it all here, but due to time constraints I had to take the pickup and a trailer. This was in the end a good idea because for several days I was passing 18-wheelers going up-hill in the Rockies and for sure they would have been passing me in the...
I've been on a road trip since October 2, and just got home.
The purpose was to document as many of the "electronics surplus houses of the west" as possible in the time available.
Of these, Murphy's had the most military electronics. However, any of them are good to know about when needing...
When my IP was rebuilt, the tach suddenly didn't work. The shop denied and made all the usual excuses and told me to replace the cable. :cookoo: I ended up putting some electrical tape around the cable end and shoving it in, and it has worked since.
rotaries - I had a job installing cruise controls in RX-7's which were then sent to be souped up. The cruise control had to be able to handle what the speedo said so as part of the test each one of those spent a few seconds at 120MPH on the highway. Less traffic and cops then for sure.
I don't know at all. The CAT scale is something I have only used twice.
All I can think of is I might have stopped in the wrong place, pulled up too far. I probably have to go back and get this straightened out at the scale. A PITA because I have insurance but it means driving the truck again...
I got the truck weighed yesterday and did not find this in the search after a couple tries, so I ask: what is the usual weight rating of the 11.00x20 NDT military tire? I've been told there are a couple different ratings and do not know what to believe.
The weight cert. says I have 16380 on the...
