I sold it to a ranch in New Mexico, so I never got to restore it. It ended up needing alot of TLC and a couple guys showed up at my door with a wad of cash so I sold it to them, they liked the truck and I more than doubled my investment on it...we all walked away happy.
I have a 915 with a CAT and its the tits. Trading it for an A1 would be a downgrade IMO. Being able to cruise down the road at 75 and have crazy low gearing is priceless.
You guys need to look around for used units at truck and equipment salvages. I got my Red Dot off an asphault sealing truck that was getting parted out. I only paid $200 for the system and that included the compressor. Those rooftop units are also mounted alot on older tractors. I think I...
EXACTLY....the batteries take all the load and have plenty of reserve with 4 batteries. To prove my point I only use two batteries in my truck and don't have any issues with my Red Dot system, four batteries would double the available amp reserve so what are you guys worried about.
I didn't even know about this until now and I could have made it. I've been sitting at the house all day and the truck is here with a trailer hooked to it. Maybe next year.....you guys would have took 1st place if I showed up with a real truck...
I have a Red Dot R-6100 with a metal cover.
The compressor was easy to mount since there are mounts available for BC Cummins. The AC lines run down the back of the cab and underneath into the engine compartment.
I have a Red Dot AC unit on my 915. Straight forward install, mount the rooftop unit (had to cut a hole in the top of the cab) and mount the compressor to the engine. I used it the other day and it was 101 or so outside and the temp inside the truck was 76-78.
FYI....if the 4 battery set up is confusing, just remember that the extra set of batteries that is hooked up parallel (+ to + and - to -) is only to raise the amperage and on the 915 you do not need 4 batteries it will work just fine with two batteries in series. I only run two batteries in...
Jeremy has my number, give me a call at the shop tomorrow if you need any advise. Those alternators are really common (except for the external 24v R/R portion but it should be ok) most alternator shops should have the parts in stock to fix it, mine did.
So it sounds like you hooked up the 12 volt power feed to the last battery in series? The best thing to do is hook it up correctly to the first battery in series and see what works and what doesnt. I would be more concerned with the charging system. Those truck have a Neece-Leville alternator...
My 915 makes about 20psi boost, 1050 degrees pre turbo and 165 psi fuel pressure (I am straight piped, my EGT's did run slightly higher with the muffler)
I can pick it up and store it for you. I'll be at Ft Sill on Wed. grabbing another trailer. I can look it over and make sure its roadworthy. I have space to store it until you can make arrangements to pick it up. PM me and we can work out the details.
I figured you would snag that up......I looked it over and passed on the deal; I thought he was bit high on the price after looking at it. How hard did you kick him in the shins on it or did you give his asking price? I thought about offering him a bit more than scrap price on it but decided I...
I'd like to see pics of how they converted it to an air ride cab.
This one sold recently at Saginaw.....

Its still undecided how many of the trailchasers will wheel out here saturday afternoon, they are having a show at Draper lake that morning and are going to decide where they are going to go while they are there. Regardless if any of you guys want to go out there we can.
It's not 100% yet, but another club that I'm a member of (Oklahoma Trail Chasers) may be out here in Tuttle wheeling at the canyons. If they decide to come out here they'll stop by the shop on the way and then we can convoy out there if we want (its on the way to Kens) and watch some wheeling...
