I'm running DRW front hubs on my K5 to fit the HMMWV rims and 2 ihch aluminum spacers on the 14 bolt. No compaints so far. Picture show a DRW hub next to SRW hub with the aluminum spacer. I felt better with the spacers only on the rear. Steel spacers are considerably more expensive.
Sorry for the civy truck post, but I just went to DRW front hubs for the HMMWV rims. The goodyear MT tires really are quite inferior off road--well, at least in mud. I like the size, but I prefer the tire type shown above on the M1008. SRW (with 2 inch spacer) and DRW hubs shown in photo for...
Sundance,
Very nice. That is an a2 trailer right? My a3 does not have the pockets for the vertical pieces (staves). I was going to weld some vertical pieces on. I will definitely use your idea though.
I have a few of those stories too. I hate selling vehicles. Had one show back up in my yard too. Come on. They are 30 to 40 years old for crying out loud. That's why I tell them to get a mechanic to check it out. If you want a warranty go buy new!
Although I am deeply sorry for your misfortune, I am grateful for the story. It helps remind me why I sold the M35 and went with a 1 ton. Whenever I get an itch for a big truck, I will return to this thread.
I'd keep the 1008, flat bed it, and make a truggy out of it. I've got a K5 here on one tons from a 1008 that I want to get rid of and get a 1008! Easy swap, I eliminated the slip yoke and went with a regular driveshaft. Perches are wider on the 1008's 14 bolt.
James,
Nice idea with the dual pintle set-up! I wished I'd thought of that before. That sure saves time moving it up and down for different trailers. The uncoupled one doesn't interfere at all does it? Thanks,
Steve
Andy,
Interesting take on the engine. I currently own an F250 with the powerstroke 6.0 and love it. I don't really know chevys. What engine does the HMMWV use? I was under the impression that the same motor was in both civy and military versions. Maybe I need to rethink this purchase. I've...
