So, what's the one thing you'd change?

I would like to remove the death sentence people get when they as for information about a subject when they are told that the TMs are the Holy Grail of information. The TM are obtuse over wordy encyclopedias that are not easy to understand or apply. Some times some one who has been there done...

400 miles Riverside, California to St George, Utah

Welcome from West Virginia. Glad you had a good trip with the new toy. My M925A2 Sandy the tan 5 ton was rescued from the Indianapolis truck yard and we towed a generator set with us to West Virginia. One gallon of oil and $200.00 worth of fuel and she came home with no problems. Have fun . Mark

    My first deuce

Good grounds are like juice to a light socket, You need both. On old iron clean and shine up ground straps between battery/ body/engine. A Jeep Wagoner tried to start using the small body ground wire from the negative battery post to the radiator support. That did not end well for the little...

    Scout car clutch problems.

Pilot bearing idea is pretty good. How much use does vehicle get and how long has it sat before last use? Either not enough clearance for disk to spin free when clutch and pressure plate gets warm and expands or possible rust on clutch disk . Parts can expand enough in use when they get hot. How...

    Well shes done

Nice looking truck..... should be model for a TONKA TRUCK OR HOT WHEELS. Do you have some build pictures to share? So far I have resisted getting the tape measure out and sizing up my Deuce or 5 ton. I may have to build a Rat Rod to take the cure. Glad you shared your handy work. Mark

M1009 Front Brakes not fully released after stopping

A quick check of calipers, remove wheel and with brake tool/pry bar check and see if caliper pistons are free and pistons move in and out freely. New parts may still be bad due to bad rebuild. Is equalizer valve stuck or master cylinder piston stroke not uncovering vent ports in master cylinder...

    New toy

Neat find of some old iron. I figure it will be lots of fun between gas stations. Our VFD had a M37 and got a lot of good out of it if you are not in a hurry and do not mind the iffy narrow brakes. Mark

Might have found a deuce, things about it/to chk out

A start up, test drive and a good flash light go along way to check on a vehicle. Are there any puddles when parked? Starts up quick cold, no extra smoke, front tire wear normal, steering wheel slop, stops straight etc? Sounds like upgrades are normal stuff guys do to guild the lilly. Good luck Mark

    M1102 trailer behind a 5 ton?

A friend of mine as a 17 year old Air Force bus driver was hauling prisoners and they would volunteer to watch out when backing up..... Its clear!......Monge Back!..... CRUNCH. He developed a cardinal rule NEVER BACK UP!!!!! I learned this handling a wood chipper pulled bu a single axle dump...

    Dukw progress thread

You may want to tie a 55 gallon drum on a rope as a marker if she does not want to float the first time out. A WWII veteran's story to his family was that a group of homesick troops stole a DUWK and started across Manilla Bay to boat home until they got swamped and sank in the bay. In...

    Identify This Trailer?

Is it true that the rounded fenders on the trailer date it back to WWII service or Korean ? You would have the only one in the neighborhood I bet. I figure lead paint so be careful and protect your self if you scrape, sandblast, or otherwise remove the old paint. I would suggest a big drop...

Possibly No More Trucks from DLA

I have received a reply from the Charleston, West Virginia local office of Senator Jay Rockefeller concerning my inquiry about the withdraw of heavy surplus trucks and generator sets from the Govliquidation public auction. The EPA has requested that the Defense Logistic Agency no longer offer...

This is our next victim! :)

Have fun with your rebuild. My cousin served in South Korea in the early 1960's when they were out on maneuvers when a M715 went out of the road and down the mountain side. The motor pool demanded that the unit be turned in. The guys brought the M715 back in the shape of a "U" in a M 105...

    My 1943 Willys MB

Good job on saving a war horse from the 4x4 crowd . I had a Willys MB that had a CJ top grafted onto it complete with 2x4 spacers to make it fit. I sold her to a man who restored her back to GI condition. Glad another MB was saved. Mark

Am i expecting too much , or right on target

A M35a2 with a winch and some snatch blocks can move all kind of stuff. My International R-162 with gear driven winch has pulled cars, loaded dead dozers and pulled downed trees with ease. You may want to add some kind of locking differentials as open axles will only power one side of the...
