Now wedge a Knuckleboom between the cab and front of bed and that's where I'll be in a few months hopefully. I was looking at doing something similar with a 5 ton dropside bed too since I had already cut down a deuce dropside for my other crane truck. I like it...I may have a little more...
Some older Mog's were set up like that; a 240hp 6 cyl Mercedes diesel in the bed with a large gear drive down the back, then a full driveshaft under the truck to the massive front mounted blower. There are several different version of front blowers with this type of drive- this is just one...
PTO speed and vehicle ground speed are the keys to that. Well...power too. That pic that I posted is a 4' diameter thrower wheel with the front snow grabbers out another couple inches from the drum. Yeah like a 52-54" wheel! That unit will move 2,400 tons of snow per hour.
Most of the PTO-hydraulic pump combination that I've seen are not single shaft units, they're two shaft that would necessitate having two gears, not just one.
I was on a PTO search for a long time too. The lion's share of the civvy/commercial market has the teeth with the opposite helix angle as well. Best bet is to buy a pump and divorce mount it or build a cage between the PTO and pump and mount it with a coupler...but that'll take some doing.
Like this. :) I left room at the back of the motor as I had the measurements from the next size torque rated oil motor so if ever I can swap in and it *should* be a bolt in change. Oil motors are on ebay all the time. $100- $300 for good ones. I got lucky and snagged this for $50 new in box...
Is it possible to run an aftermarket dealie like the heavy duty versions for bbc and sbc?? I know I ALWAYS installed them in any engine I built and got the ones with the steel sleave instead of the nylon sleave dealie.
The discussion another time with auto tranny fluid was the friction inhibitors used and the effect they may have on the injection system. Seems to be a moot point now.
Islandguydon, yeah there are laws about what you can burn and blending licenses or other permits are the way they get you...
A friend of mine has a daughter who is a senior in HS. The school actually developed a class where the students HAD TO learn people skill and how to react to people face to face. This was after many complaints from companies saying that none of the students had people skills. They're so used...
It's the bullsh!t coddling way of the world right now. How much do you think the signs across the highway cost to tell you the road may be wet, or snow covered, etc? It's everywhere...dumbing down common sense- IT'S RIDICULOUS!!!
Maybe you want to reread my earlier post now?
Center the crane side to side on the truck, figure where it has to be to rotate and not hit the cab and sock it down. Yes, any large attachment is capable of damage to the truck frame but you have to use common sense.
