That's how the locker works. Driveshaft input makes it do it's thing. If that's a Detroit it is especially true. You can learn to live with it or spend the $$$ to swap out the carrier for an Auburn style or clutch style locker as opposed to more notchy detroits or ratchet styles.
see below... That's as snug as it can possibly get as the winch is back to the front cross member of the frame. My V8 CAT is shorter than the stock inline so the radiator was able to move back about 4"...
Why in the heck do people feel the need to use the full roller fairleads on 20K Garwoods when they try to put them on the front?!? Pull that crap off and shorten it up! Pay attention, winch better and do an install job that looks good. I'd hack that off and start over.
With the 42's you could turn and hit a bump, huh? ;)
When I put the 46" XML's (which measure out to the same height as your big IROKs) I opened up the front fender forward and rearward to accomodate steering and articulation. Forward wasn't bad. Rearward left a 1" ribbon of fender to attach...
Anyone who may be somewhat new to the site and doesn't recognize the magnitude of this should search Bjorn's posts. He is one of the premier imformation lenders to this site and his adaptation of parts and inquisitive nature mixed with attention to detail has led to the construction of a truck...
You don't need dual rear calipers if the system is designed correctly. The Unimog 406's (that I've seen with heavy options) run a pair of calipers on each front wheel and single caliper on the rears. That's also using an 18" rotor, iirc.
USA 6x6 is a BANNED MEMBER last time I looked after being a jackass here. Yeah, Steve...everyone was stealing HIS stuff, you-, Staz, Randy O, ...it was pathetic. The man deserves(d) what he gets. It's good to see really nice solid upgrades on the market and people out trying to break them...
I'm glad that retard Daniel in Oklahoma is out of business. He was giving all Rockwell guys a bad name plus defending himself saying they stole ideas from him. Steve, good to see you around this board!
Yeah, I know! How friggin cool was that thing!
A buddy of mine picked up one of the NYC Port Authority Subway car pulling mogs a few years back. He pulled the rail gear off and replaced the wheels with the wider stance 'typical' disc brake wheels. Truck didn't even need to be repainted. Oh...
Keep an eye on the right sales and you can pick up a 406 for half of that. May need a little...but your foot is in the door at least. ;)
BUT, if you would really find yourself with some an abundance of $$$ kicking around, we can talk. :)
These two videos are neat to watch showing the versatility of the Unimog trucks. Both videos are in German, but it doesn't matter if you speak it or not, just to watch the trucks do their thing is cool. :)
This is a favorite of mine for several reasons; 1- it cool as anything walking over a 44" wall, 2- it did that without the help of it's factory designed chassis flex because of the dumb rigid jungle gym that was built on it, and 3- a buddy of mine now owns it and removed the dumb cage and...
OMG...before you said it was a 3500 series, I thought someone in a UNIMOG hit you!!!
Yeah, uh huh...I DID just post that. AH-hahahahahhahaaaa ha, ha, ha!
